You’ll need a mason jar to make this simple project. Cut thin twigs into equal lengths, slightly longer than the mason jar’s height. Arrange them around the jar and hold them in place with twine. You can use this technique to make a gorgeous planter or even a rustic tealight holder.

2. Decorated Flower Vase

Twigs are a quick and easy way to give new life to an old flower vase. Cut bigger branches laterally as shown and stick them onto the sides of a ceramic vase. You can also use a combination of thick and thin twigs for a more interesting effect. Add some twine around the mouth of the vase to keep the theme consistent.

3. Key Holder

This key holder is just an example of the limitless crafting potential of twigs! Gather a bunch of thin twigs of different lengths. Weave some twine through the sticks and tie it at the ends to keep the twigs in place. Hammer in nails or hooks to form a key holder. You can also take the advantage of its natural shape, using the mini-branches and grooves as hooks.

4. Coffee Table

Use smaller twig pieces to decorate the base. You can use your imagination here! You can also varnish the wood pieces for extra durability. When crafting, take care of splinters.

When you’re bringing nature indoors, why not include the sky and the stars as well? Get some plain smooth rocks and paint your favorite constellation on them. Then make a little display stand of twig pieces all glued together. Use different heights to help the stones stay in place.

6. Twig and Bark Wall Art

An easy way to DIY with twigs is by making wall art. I took four acrylic on canvas pre-mounted boards. One one, I drew leaves and I painted another to make it look like bark. Multiple layers of paint gave a lovely 3-dimensional look to the paintings. On the other two boards, I cut some branches and arranged them horizontally and vertically on each one.

7. Fish Wall Art

This fish wall art is a fun idea for a kids’ room or a staircase landing. Use twigs of the same thickness cut into different lengths to make the fish. Cut lateral pieces of branches for the bubbles. As you can see here, I’ve hammered a nail into one of them to hang the key holder.

8. Photo Frames

Photo frames are the perfect way to use up any leftover twigs that you have. Get plain wooden frames to decorate, or make your own with wood. I made two frames, one by cutting twig pieces laterally and sticking them on the sides of the frame, as shown above.

The second frame I made is with thinner twigs arranged all around the photo int he center. This gives the frame a nice, rustic look and you can also use a bent twig to act as the stand for the frame!

Be sure to use clean, dry twigs when crafting – you don’t want little creepy crawlies all over the place! With some strong glue, you can be sure that your creations last a long time to come!
