20 No Sew Pretend Play Food Crafts for Kids

Sharing is caring!

If you want to set up your pretend play food station without spending a bomb or using plastic, try these – easy, no sew pretend play food crafts for kids!

Some of my best childhood memories are about the times I played pretend kitchen with my neighbor, a little girl my age. We used to pool in all the little dishes and whatever pretend food we had and then we went on to create all kinds of delicacies. The flair with which we served these up would put any Masterchef to shame!

Of course, we had to improvise a lot, especially when it came to the food. Bits of paper became rice, long strips became noodles and sponges multitasked as bread, cake or even the kitchen sponge! Play doh and rocks also featured a lot, and the more variety we had, the more fun it was.

These days, the kind of pretend play sets you find in toy stores are so sophisticated, some of them look better than my real kitchen! But they do cost quite a pretty penny, and are mostly made of plastic, which isn’t exactly eco-friendly. And I personally feel they take away from the imaginative benefits of pretend play.

That’s why I believe that handmade trumps store-bought, any day!! So if you’d like to give your play kitchen or play restaurant a more realistic look without spending a bomb or adding to landfills, here are 20 pretend play food crafts for kids, made with simple craft supplies.
