One of my favourite authors is J.D. Salinger, who famously said,
“Mothers are all slightly insane.”
I know exactly why this is so – We all go insane trying to make our kids eat!
I actually didn’t have any trouble with Miss P as a baby or toddler. She was a good kid and happily ate everything that was fed to her. It was when she started school that she got pickier. I often tell her that her full name should be Picky Princess P!!
Princess P’s Pickiness
Vegetables are ‘too green’ or ‘too crunchy’. Bananas that have even a spot of brown are instantly labelled ‘yucky’. My kitchen drawer overflowed with cookie cutters to cut sandwiches into all kinds of shapes – in vain.
And Roti was deemed ‘too boring’!
As you can imagine, I was pretty frustrated. Last week, I happened to see the new Pillsbury Milk Choco Spread Masti Pack on a shelf in my supermarket. I had seen the full tub before, but this Masti pack is new.
Ah! This was my Eureka Moment – maybe this was what would keep my sanity intact!
Pillsbury Milk Choco Spread Masti Pack – No More Boring Rotis
The Pillsbury Milk Choco Spread Masti pack is a handy pouch with a small nozzle that acts a lot like a frosting bag – only much easier!
Just squeezing the pouch lets out the Choco spread and in a few seconds, I could practically draw like I was using a pen!
I was thrilled with the creative possibilities of the Pillsbury Milk Choco Spread Masti pack, but would it work with my picky princess? Time for the grand experiment!
We settled on a Sunday. I’d have enough time to work on my creation and Miss P would be relaxed enough to enjoy it. (I was desperately hoping that she would!).
I decided to enlist her help to make a Butterfly Roti Sandwich – I figured that if the spread could make Miss P have some Masti with the Rotis, she would eat them without complaining! Win-Win!
How to make a Butterfly Roti Sandwich with Pillsbury Choco Spread
You’ll need –
- A Roti
- Pillsbury Choco Spread Masti Pack
- Kid friendly Knife
- Fruits – Kiwi, Mango, Watermelon
- Rainbow Sprinkles (optional)
To make the Butterfly Roti Sandwich with Pillsbury Choco Spread,
Start with a Regular Roti and Pillsbury Choco Masti Pack.
Using the nozzle and a spoon, spread a generous layer of the Choco Spread on the entire roti. Fold in half and cut to reveal two pie shaped Roti pieces.
You could also add a layer of sliced bananas, powdered dry fruits or strawberries between the Roti layers.
Using the nozzle again, Doodle the butterfly body on a larger plate on one side. Now place the Roti pieces as butterfly wings.
Decorate the plate with Fruit cut outs – We made watermelon flowers, kiwi leaves and chocolate stalks. We also added a lot of choco spots on our butterfly and then added rainbow sugar Sprinkles for a dash of colour.
The plate was ready and it was looking really good, even if I may say so myself!
It took us less time than expected and we spent some quality mommy-daughter time together. Plus, she was super happy about her creation.
The real test was however in the taste. Miss P picked up one wing of the butterfly and neatly bit into one edge – Her smile said it all.
I went to answer the door and when I got back, she was licking the last bits of the Pillsbury Choco Spread off the plate – the Roti was nowhere to be seen! Yay!
