Fun Rocking UFO Craft for Kids
It’s World UFO Day, and we are not going to miss it! Here’s a fun Rocking UFO Craft for Kids to make & play with. Be sure to learn about UFOs too!
What if I told you that there’s a special day dedicated to people staring up at the sky looking for strange objects?
You’d think I’m crazy, but it’s true – that’s the entire purpose of World UFO Day, coming up on 2nd July!
What is World UFO Day?
It is claimed that the first UFO sighting happened on July 2nd in 1947, which then became the observance called World UFO Day. Some claim that the UFO was actually sighted on 24th June, while the commemoration date was decided to be 2nd July. Whatever it is, we’re ready to celebrate!
While this day is used to observe the skies and to have conversations about whether there is really life outside planet Earth, we’re using the opportunity to have some fun – with a rocking UFO craft!

Supplies required:
- Colored cardstock papers
- Colored craft papers
- Pencil
- Craft glue
- A pair of scissors
- Sharpies
How to make the Rocking UFO Craft for Kids:
1. Download the Rocking UFO Craft template. The template contains parts of the UFO, including the base, glass and lights, as well as of the alien, like head, body and antennae.
2. Trace the parts of the UFO and alien on craft paper and cut them out. Now here’s the fun part – choosing the colors! Since UFOs don’t have a standard color theme, you can use pretty much any color you like. We’ve gone with purple, navy and green, but you can also use red or orange.
3. Let’s start by assembling the UFO part of the rocking UFO craft. Fold the circle base by half so you get a semicircle.
4. Place the semicircle so that the folded edge faces up. Stick the curved border on the edge of the semicircle as shown.
5. Let’s light up our rocking UFO craft with some yellow lights! Stick the little light circles along the curved border, placing them equidistant from each other.
6. Let’s put away the UFO base for now. The UFO needs a rider, and that’s our little alien. Stick the tiny antennae on top of the alien’s head.
7. Attach the head to the narrow edge of the alien’s body. The alien’s basic structure is now ready.
8. Take the glass cover of the UFO and to make it appear shiny, stick on the little white sparkle bit near the curved edge.
9. Time to take out your Sharpies! Use a Sharpie in the same color as the alien to draw outlines. Do the same with the glass cover. Now use a black Sharpie to draw eyes and a mouth on the alien’s face. He’s beginning to look cute!
10. Place the alien inside the glass cubicle and secure him in place with glue.
11. Bring back the UFO’s semicircle base. Attach the glass cubicle with the alien on the folded edge of the semicircle.
12. Now, all that’s left to do is to open up your semicircle a little so that it can rest on a flat surface like a table.
There you go – your rocking UFO craft is complete and ready to rock!
If you like, you can have a fun UFO-themed party on this day, and your friends can make their own version of the rocking UFO craft as a party activity. Just supply them with craft materials and let their imagination run wild!
