Supplies required:
- Colored craft papers
- Colored cardstock paper
- Craft glue
- Pencil
- Sharpies
- A pair of scissors
- Cardboard or foam sheet
How to make the Mother’s Day 3D papercraft:
1. Download and print the Mother’s Day 3D papercraft template. The template includes the various layers of the background, a branch as well as the birds’ body parts.
2. Trace the parts of the template on craft papers in colors of your choice. Use blue for the bottom-most layer, and different shades of green for the remaining three layers. The branch and leaves will be brown and green, respectively, while the birds can be purple or pink for a nice contrast.
3. Let’s start with the main character of our Mother’s Day 3D papercraft – Mama bird! Stick the wing on top of the body. Color in the eye shape.
4. Attach the beak and eye to complete Mama bird. Repeat the same steps for Baby bird. They look adorable!
5. Let’s move on to the branch. It’s easy enough – simply stick the leaves to the narrow ends of the branch.
6. Use colored Sharpies or markers to add an outline to the tree branch. You can also add any details you want to the birdies.
7. Time to bring the Mama and baby together! Stick the birds on the tree branch, placing them close to each other. The soul of our Mother’s Day 3D papercraft is ready!
8. Let’s put aside the birdies and the branch and get the background ready for our Mother’s Day 3D papercraft. Our very first layer is the blue one. Cut the cardboard or foam sheet into thin strips. Apply glue on two of the strips and stick them on opposite edges of the blue square.
9. Apply glue on top of the strips and place the second layer – the first green layer – on top of the strips. Secure the sheet in place.
10. Get two more cardboard/foam strips and apply glue on them. Stick them on top of the second layer on opposite ends – this time choose the edges that were left out in step 8. So if you stuck them on the vertical edges earlier, stick these on the horizontal edges.
11. Apply glue on top of the strips and place the third layer on them.
12. Stick on two more cardboard strips as in step 8 and follow up with the last layer. You now have a little window of green opening into a blue sky!
13. It’s time for our birdies to reappear! Stick the duo on the branch within the background. We have inserted the end of the branch inside the topmost layer so it stays hidden inside.
14. All that’s left to do now is to add a few hearts cut out from red craft paper and stick it between the layers. Your Mother’s Day 3D papercraft is complete!
