Easy Newspaper Hyacinth Flowers perfect for Spring
It may now be Spring, but here in Bangalore, it is HOT HOT HOT and it was even raining yesterday! After the dreary rains, I felt that I could use some color in my life. Hyacinths are Spring flowering perennials and since I can not go outside and pick them, I figured, why not make them myself? There are only three materials needed for this whole craft, it’s pretty quick to make and the craft is a great way to go green and upcycle newspapers!
Easy Newspaper Hyacinth Flowers
Materials –
- Newspaper
- Scissors – We used our new fringe scissors, but you could use any scissors you have at home
- Paints
- Brushes
- Floral tape ( optional)
- Drinking Straws
- Staple or glue
To make the Newspaper Hyacinth Flowers –
Choose your colors. We used Red, pink & blue violet combinations. Line up your newspaper at your workstation and using a sponge brush, apply a light coat of acrylic paint. Dab lightly so that paper does not tear. Let dry. we left ours overnight.
Once the paper is dry, cut them up into long strips of approximately 4 inches wide by 15 inches long.
Fold the paper in half along the long edge and then 3 times along the short edge. Then using a fringe scissor, cut slices starting from the folded edge, leaving about a centimeter of space on the other end.
Staple the open edge of the paper to the top of a straw as shown. You could use glue instead, but Miss P hates getting glue on her hands and this method works really well for us. Beginning at the top of the stem, continue to roll and staple into place around until you reach the end of the strip.
Cover the remaining straw with a floral tape to resemble a stem.
We made about 6 from a single sheet of paper.
