Are you a bird lover? I like birds, but I guess I wouldn’t call myself a ‘bird lover’. I admit having them around is a joy; I like seeing them fly and hearing them sing, but it’s also annoying when they poop on my car!
But then, some birds are so gorgeous that you have to simply stop and stare! One such bird is the scarlet macaw – a large bird with stunning plumage and quite a personality!
Fun Facts about Scarlet Macaws
- They are massive – their wing span can go up to 1 meter
- Scarlet macaws mimic words and sounds and many of them can even speak well
- They’re quite smart, but can also be snarky and mean
- These birds are monogamous, meaning that they mate for life
- They’re believed to have the emotional intelligence of a two year old child
- Scarlet macaws need constant entertainment, both in and out of their cages
Scarlet macaws are notorious for being demanding and requiring a lot of involved care, including toys, snacks and loads of attention! However, today we have one that doesn’t require much effort at all – it’s a toilet paper parrot craft, perfect for World Parrot Day on 31st May!

- Craft paper in different colors
- Empty toilet paper roll
- Pencil
- A pair of scissors
- Craft glue
- Sharpies or markers
How to make the Terrific Toilet Paper Parrot Craft for Kids:
1. Download the toilet paper parrot craft template. The template includes parts of the parrot, like the body, belly, wings, beak, eyes and crest.
2. Trace the parts of the parrot on craft paper in colors of your choice and cut them out. We decided to go really bright with red for the parrot and yellow for the beak. Choose different colors for the wings, like yellow and blue, so you get a nice contrast.
3. Let’s start the toilet paper parrot craft by assembling the wings. Stick the middle section of the wing first.
4. Next, stick the lower section of the wing, slightly overlapping the middle section so it looks like overlapping feathers.
5. Put aside the wings – it’s time for the parrot’s body! Cover the toilet paper roll with the large rectangle from the toilet paper parrot craft template. Once the base is ready, stick the beak and belly of the parrot on the upper and lower halves of the base respectively.
6. Glue the eyes above the beak. The toilet paper parrot craft is coming along nicely!
7. Attach the crest of the parrot on top of the toilet paper roll, applying glue on the inside.
8. Only one more thing left to do – attach the wings! Stick them on either side of the parrot’s body, letting the ends hang loose.
That’s it – your colorful toilet paper parrot craft is ready!
Isn’t this little guy absolutely stunning? We recommend using the brightest craft papers you have, so your craft can truly shine and make a statement. If you like, you can also add some craft feathers to the wings, to make it more realistic and add some interest.
