With this being the month of National Camp Day on 19th November, we thought it would be fun to dig a little into the history of camping. Who was the first person who decided that it would be fun to pitch a tent in the wilderness and spend the night there?
That person was Thomas Hiram Holding. an Englishman. While picnics and pleasure boating excursions were popular in the Victorian age, it was holding who actually brought about the concept of camping as we know it today. He even wrote a book, ‘The Campers Handbook’, so people would know how to go about it!
Since then, camping has grown by leaps and bounds, popularized even more by the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Today, camping is a great way for kids to make friends, experience life in nature, and build their problem-solving skills.
So if you can, try to join a camping adventure this season. Even if you don’t, we can make sure you have some fun – with these cute camp crafts for kids! So set up a tent with a sheet, and let’s get crafting!
