When I was young, the days leading up to Independence Day were always abuzz with excitement. All the kids used to be busy making special crafts, trying to combine saffron, white and green as creatively as possible!

There were, of course, things you would expect to find, like tricolor banners, paper chains or posters featuring national symbols. Then you’d find some truly unique wall hangings or paper sculptures – examples of the creativity of young millennials!

I’ve always carried this tradition with me as I grew older and when I became a parent, my daughter joined me! This year, we decided to try something different, and since she was in a quilling phase, we decided to make a cute tricolor quilled flowers craft!

Easy Tricolor Quilled Flowers Craft for Kids

Supplies required:

Quilling strips in white, green, orange and blue
Quilling Tools
Craft Glue

How to make the Tricolor Quilled Flowers Craft:

1. Start out with the blue quilling strips. Use a quilling tool to make tight closed coils, and hold them in place with glue. Make as many coils as you need for your tricolor quilled flowers craft. Put them aside.

2. Time to make the petals for our flowers, which will be in orange, white and green. Make closed coils in petal shapes, holding them in place with glue. You’ll need two petals of each color for a single flower.

3. Once you have enough petals, it’s time to assemble your tricolor quilled flowers craft. Place a blue coil in the centre, and place two petals of each color around the blue coil. Arrange the petals so that the orange ones are in one direction, the green are in the opposite direction and the white petals are on either side, as shown in the image below.

Use glue to secure all the petals to the center and that’s it – your tricolor quilled flowers craft is complete! You can use these flowers on top of cards, or gifts. You can string them together to make a decorative banner. You can also stick a flower on a pin and turn it into an Independence Day badge. The opportunities are endless!
