15 Tricolor Paper Quilling Ideas for Independence Day

When Miss P was young, we used to spend Independence Day mornings glued to the TV, watching the tricolor being hoisted at multiple locations across the country. Seeing people from all parts of this large country saluting the same flag was a sight to behold – it gave us goosebumps!
The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs has laid down some rules and guidelines for handling the Indian Tricolor, called the ‘Flag Code of India‘. Let’s look at some of them.
Rules for Handling the Indian Tricolor
- The national flag should never touch the ground, water or any surface that could cause damage
- When displayed horizontally, the saffron band should be at the top, and when displayed vertically, the saffron band should be on the left
- If displayed at night, the tricolor should be appropriately illuminated
- The flag should not be used as a holder for any object
- Damaged or soiled flags should not be hoisted, but should be disposed of in private
Nothing in the flag code prevents us from making paper quilling crafts, so that’s what we’re going to do this Independence Day! Miss P learnt how to quill from the very talented Ritu Gera and the student has now turned into the teacher!
