I’m joining in Patricia’s Buddha Scapes with a trip to Thailand.. Back in 2005 we took at 11 day trip visiting a few places in Thailand & Malaysia.. It was during our trip to Bangkok that my love for Buddha was born. Wouldn’t yours too if you got to see such magnificent statues???
Wat Traimit (Temple of the Golden Buddha),

Golden Buddha is the world’s largest solid-gold Buddha. The graceful seated Buddha is nearly 10 feet high and weighs over 5 tons. An interesting history fact – When the Burmese were about to sack the city, it was covered in plaster to hide its value. Two centuries later, still in plaster, it was thought to be worth very little.

But in 1957, when the image was being moved to a new temple in Bangkok, it slipped from a crane and was left in the mud by workmen. In the morning, a temple monk, who had dreamed that the statue was divinely inspired, went to see the Buddha image. Through a crack in the plaster he saw a glint of yellow, and discovered that the statue was pure gold.

Wat Phra Kaew, Temple of the Emerald Buddha.
The dark green statue standing about 2 feet tall is carved from a large solid piece of green jadite.

Wat Pho or Temple of Reclining (Sleeping) Buddha in Bangkok is the world’s largest reclining Buddha statue.
The temple is home to more than 1,000 Buddha images, more than any other temple in the country.
The Reclining Buddha is 46 meters long and 15 meters high.
His body is covered in gold plating and he is decorated with mother-of-pearl inlay on his eyes and the soles of his feet. The bottoms of the Buddha’s feet are intricately decorated with 108 auspicious scenes
Hope you liked the virtual tour  🙂
