Printable Blank Frames Drawing Prompts to spark your child’s creativity

Sharing is caring!

Does your child like to color outside the lines? These Printable Blank Frames Drawing Prompts might be just what you need. Spark your budding Van Gogh’s creative juices with this fun drawing prompt!

The summer holidays are here and we dedicate 1/2 hour (or more if she is interested) each day, to learning a new craft or art technique. While Miss P can color well, she does struggle with drawing.

“What should I draw?” is a question she asks every time.  It happens to lots of kids. They get stuck in a rut, a case of “drawer’s block,” if you can call it that. They can draw anything, so long as they know what they want to draw.

It can be hard to overcome a white paper or blank canvas staring back at you. But for some reason, the simple act of adding frames to a blank space seems to invite a creative response. So we made a freebie!

I have used these many times – at home for a quick half-hour drawing & coloring session; While traveling, we carry laminated sheets and then use a dry erase marker or chalk markers to “draw” our designs. They also work great as story or writing prompts – imagine a 3-part or 4-part story and draw and write about it.

Simply download and print and spark some creativity in your children (or you)!

While these drawing prompts are geared towards kids they really are for any age. I encourage you to draw with your child. The drawing prompts can be printed easily on A4 / Letter paper for your convenience.

No matter what your kids draw, their drawings are meant to be treasured! Take a moment, and snap a picture, so that you can see, years from now, the fantastic imaginations that they shared with you.

Reasons why I love drawing prompts –

  • They are a quick starting point.
  • They cause less overwhelm because kids don’t feel pressurized to use the whole page to draw something.
  • Kids have a chance to show off their creative side by drawing funny pictures.
  • Practices fine motor skills: kids will be challenged to make different shapes and lines. This will allow them to practice using their fine motor skills when drawing.

Make Erasable Drawing Prompts

If you’d like to re-use the free printable drawing prompts, either laminate the sheets or place them in plastic sleeves and use them with whiteboard markers. The drawings can then be erased and the drawing prompts used over and over.

  1. Thank you for the resource! One suggestion is to change the font from cursive to print so that young children can read what it says. 🙂
