Refreshing Handprint Ice Cream Craft for Kids
Refresh yourself on a hot summer day with an ice cream – and a cute handprint ice cream craft for kids! Don’t worry, there’s no danger of this one melting!
Imagine you have a stall at a fair, selling dessert in little cups. Suddenly, you run out of cups, and there’s a long queue waiting to be served. What will you do?
Well, if your neighbor is someone like Syrian baker Ernest A. Hamwi, you’ll improvise – like rolling a waffle pastry into a cone and using it as a dish! Well, this is believed to be how the waffle cone became popular for ice cream, although it may have actually been invented much earlier.
Since it’s summer and because we love ice cream, this story has inspired us to create something of our own – a cute handprint ice cream craft for kids! And you may even find room to improvise here, by adding any embellishments you may like!

Supplies required:
- Colored craft papers
- Pencil
- Craft glue
- A pair of scissors
- Sharpies
How to make the Handprint Ice Cream Craft for Kids:
1. Download and print the Handprint Ice Cream Craft template. The template includes parts of the ice cream, like the cone, topping, cherry, sprinkles and handprint. You can of course use your own handprints – simply place the hand on the craft paper of your choice, and draw an outline around it. Now you can cut it out and use it in your craft.
2. Trace the template patterns on craft paper and cut them out. You can use brown or orange for the cone and red for the cherry. As for the ice cream and topping, you can choose anything, depending upon your favorite ice cream flavor! As for the sprinkles, cut out little rectangles from craft paper of different colors.
3. Let’s start by getting our waffle cone ready. To create the waffle effect, use a Sharpie to draw criss cross lines. Make sure the Sharpie is of a shade darker than the paper so the lines are clearly visible. Keep the cone aside.
4. Take the little cherry and stick the tiny stem on top, applying glue on the back of the cherry. Put the cherry away for now.
5. Moving on to the main part of our handprint ice cream craft – the ice cream! Take the handprint and place it so that the fingers face downward. Now stick the topping on the top – the ‘wrist’ end of the handprint.
6. Take the paper cherry and stick it on top of the topping, in the middle.
7. Use Sharpies in matching colors to outline the ice cream, topping and cherry. The handprint ice cream craft is taking shape!
8. Apply small glue dots in a scattered pattern on the topping. Make sure there’s lots of them, and they’re well placed!
9. Stick the sprinkles on the glue dots, so that the colors are distributed at somewhat equal distances from each other.
10. All that’s left to do is to put your ice cream on the cone! Apply some glue to the flat top edge of the cone, and stick the handprint on it.
All done – your handprint ice cream craft is complete! Now let’s make more in other flavors!
You can customize this handprint ice cream craft by substituting paper sprinkles with little stickers or even jewels. Change out the toppings and flavors, and you’ll have a different ice cream every time!
