Monsters are always associated with negativity, aren’t they? We assume monsters are these large, scary creatures that are out to hurt us in some way.
But what if that wasn’t true at all? What if monsters just look scary but are actually quite nice? For instance, what if there were a few monsters that were helpful enough to help you on your reading journey?
Yes, such monsters exist, and you can meet them through our cute little monster hug bookmark craft! We’ve got three little guys lined up for you today, and they’re not at all scary – even young kids will love them!

Supplies required:
- Colored cardstock papers
- Pencil
- A pair of scissors
- Craft glue
- Sharpies
- Googly eyes
How to make the Magnificent Monster Hug Bookmark Craft:
1. Download and print the monster hug bookmark craft template. The template includes patterns for three monsters, although you can make as many as you like! In the template, you’ll find the monster’s body, arms, feet, horns, mouth, and nails.
2. Trace the parts of the template on craft paper of the appropriate colors and cut them out. Now this is the fun part, since you can make your monsters in any color you like! The body, horns, arms etc. can either be different shades of the same color or completely contrasting colors – the choice is yours! We’ve chosen the same color but lighter shade for the arms, and contrasting colors for the horns.
3. Let’s starting each monster monster hug bookmark craft one by one. Take a Sharpie the same color as your monster’s body and shade in some circles – this is an optional step. Then attach the monster’s feet at the bottom of the body.
4. Use the same Sharpie or another one to add some stripes to the horns.
5. Attach the horns to the top of the monster’s head/body. Make sure you apply glue on the back of the head so the horns seem to pop out.
6. Stick the monster’s little teeth inside the mouth. Make sure to leave lots of gaps in between to give our monster hug bookmark craft as whacky of a smile as you can!
7. Stick the mouth somewhere in the upper middle portion of the monster’s body, leaving enough space on top for the eyes.
8. Stick one large googly eye or two small ones – or even three – on the monster’s head, right above the mouth.
9. Time to give our monster hug bookmark craft some arms! Take one of the arm cutouts and apply glue along the straight edge ONLY. Stick this part to the edge of monster’s body. Make sure the other end of the arm is free from glue.
10. Repeat the previous step with the other arm, sticking on the other side of the monster’s body and leaving the opposite end free from glue.
11. Almost there! Attach the tiny nail pieces at the free end of the monster’s arms. Make sure to apply glue carefully so that you don’t end up sticking the entire arm to the monster’s body!
12. Let the glue dry completely and then you have your monster hug bookmark craft ready to use! All you need to do is to insert the edge of your page between the arms and the body of the monster.
Now don’t they look happy to do their job? See, we told you that not all monsters are bad – look at Cookie Monster as a great example! Now go ahead and try out some more monster crafts!
