These Cool and Creative Ice Cream Crafts for Kids will have you craving an ice cream cone in no time, no matter what the weather is outside!

There are many joys of childhood, and one of them is most certainly slurping on an ice cream cone, going ever so slowly so the treat will last longer. Unfortunately, that often ends up with the ice cream dripping down your fingers and making a mess!

In case you’re wondering why we’re talking about ice creams when Fall is on its way, it’s because September 22nd is Ice Cream Cone Day. There are some differences of opinion based on where the cone was invented, but initially they were waffles rolled by hand. Later, a machine was invented and ice cream cones were all set to rule the world.

So how are you going to celebrate Ice Cream Cone Day this year? If you can, we’d certainly recommend treating yourself and your family to some yummy cones! If not, you can still celebrate – with some cool and tempting ice cream crafts!

If you want to set up your pretend play food station without spending a bomb or using plastic, try these – easy, no sew pretend play food crafts for kids!

Some of my best childhood memories are about the times I played pretend kitchen with my neighbor, a little girl my age. We used to pool in all the little dishes and whatever pretend food we had and then we went on to create all kinds of delicacies. The flair with which we served these up would put any Masterchef to shame!

Of course, we had to improvise a lot, especially when it came to the food. Bits of paper became rice, long strips became noodles and sponges multitasked as bread, cake or even the kitchen sponge! Play doh and rocks also featured a lot, and the more variety we had, the more fun it was.

These days, the kind of pretend play sets you find in toy stores are so sophisticated, some of them look better than my real kitchen! But they do cost quite a pretty penny, and are mostly made of plastic, which isn’t exactly eco-friendly. And I personally feel they take away from the imaginative benefits of pretend play.

That’s why I believe that handmade trumps store-bought, any day!! So if you’d like to give your play kitchen or play restaurant a more realistic look without spending a bomb or adding to landfills, here are 20 pretend play food crafts for kids, made with simple craft supplies and basic crafting skills.

Just hearing about tacos probably brings up images of colorful sombreros and guacamole, right? The reason I love tacos is that they’re so easy to make – take a tortilla and stuff it with whatever you like! It’s also a great way to get kids to eat veggies buried beneath cheese!

However, there’s nothing sneaky about today’s paper taco craft for kids, made with different varieties of craft paper. Trust me, it’s a dish worthy to be on any cooking show!

It’s 14 March today, which you can also write in MM/DD form as as 3.14. Now, does that number look familiar? Oh yes, it’s ∏ (pi)!!

Yes, it’s Pi Day on 14th March, and yes, it’s because of the date! That’s a fascinating fact, but what interests me more are the pies of the edible variety. There are so many delicious pies out there, but my #1 favorite has to be cherry! Miss P and I have been longing to make her dolls a pretend pie for a while and what better day than Pi day to make not one but three!!

My daughter’s school always has adorable project stations for the children. Last week there was a “pumpkin pie” station that integrated sensory with art. I decided we had to do it at home. Such a simple and fun activity!
