Beautiful DIY Toilet Paper Roll Snowflake Ornament
This DIY Toilet Paper Roll Snowflake Ornament is a gorgeous, rustic piece that will look wonderful hanging on your Christmas tree this year!
“Silently, like thoughts that come and go, the snowflakes fall, each one a gem.”
There is something amazing about snowflakes. They’re so beautiful but so fleeting. Yet, a snowball or an avalanche starts with a single snowflake. It’s powerful and delicate at the same time!
I grew up hearing that snowflakes are unique in their beauty, and if someone called me a snowflake then, I would consider it the highest compliment. Unfortunately today, being called a snowflake isn’t something nice – it is used to refer to a person being too sensitive or easily offended.
All I can say is that if you do get called a snowflake, think of it in its positive sense – you are a gorgeous creation, one-of-a-kind, with immense potential to achieve great things. And to remind you of this message, let’s make a beautiful toilet paper roll snowflake ornament today!

Supplies required:
- Empty toilet paper roll
- Twine or string
- Pearl or bead
- A pair of sharp scissors
- Glue gun
- Glue sticks
- Acrylic paint
- Paintbrush
How to make the Toilet Paper Roll Snowflake Ornament:
1. Let’s begin by taking the toilet paper roll and flattening it by pressing it gently on a flat surface like a table.
2. Cut 3 strips about 0.75 cm wide from the flattened toilet paper roll.
3. Fold each toilet paper roll strip down the middle, so you get a V-shape like this.
4. Slightly open the inner space of the strips after making the fold. You now have three petal shapes for your toilet paper roll snowflake ornament. Arrange them in a snowflake/flower pattern as shown below.
5. Use hot glue to join all the three parts together. Make sure they’re nice and secure.
6. Cut 3 more strips from the toilet paper roll. You’ll end up with three oval-ish shapes, with pointy ends.
7. Cut each shape at the pointy ends, so you get six curved strips. I know this sounds confusing, but hang in there!
8. Take a curved strip and fold it in half so you get a V shape.
9. Fold in the two ends of the V to meet the middle point.
10. Now, fold again so you’re back to the V, but this time with little petal shapes.
11. Repeat steps 9-10 with the remaining curved strips. By now, you should have the base pattern for the toilet paper roll snowflake ornament, as well as 6 petal-V shaped thingies.
12. Use hot glue to insert the small V-shapes between the gapes of the snowflake base pattern.
13. Cut three more strips from the toilet paper roll, and cut them into halves horizontally. You now have six V-shapes.
14. Take a V-shape, turn it upside down, and insert the open ends in the gap between the V-shapes of Step 12. Use hot glue to secure it in place. Repeat this with the remaining V-shapes.
15. Your toilet paper roll snowflake ornament is almost done! Attach a bead to the center of the snowflake pattern.
16. Now all that’s left to do is to attach a piece of string to one end of the snowflake so you can hang it up on your tree.
You can use ribbon or any kind of string to hang your toilet paper roll snowflake ornament, but we think twine adds to the overall rustic appearance of this DIY ornament. It’s amazing how you can create something so beautiful from an object as mundane as a toilet paper roll – just the way a stunning snowflake is created from something as common as water!
