Halloween-Special Handprint Spider Craft for Kids
Put your hands together for this fun handprint spider craft for kids! It comes with its own web and makes for the perfect Halloween project!
During the Halloween season, we decorate our homes and gardens with all kinds of spooky things, like skeletons, mummies or ghosts floating around. However, nothing can come close to the fear you experience when a spider suddenly drops down on your shoulder without warning, or when you walk right into a spider web!
But if you put the fear aside, you’ll realize that spider webs are actually quite amazing. Here are some fun facts about these cool creations.
Fun Facts about Spider Webs
- The material spiders use to make webs is called spider silk, which is 1000 times thinner than human hair and lighter than cotton
- Despite its light weight, spider silk has a higher strength-to-density ratio than steel and a similar tensile strength, making it quantitatively five times stronger
- A single spider can make at least three different kinds of silk, and some can even make seven
- Spiders use their silk for building enclosures for their babies, as well as a way of transportation
- When building a new web, a spider will eat up the old one for the proteins in it
- Some spiders replace their webs every day, even if they aren’t damaged or compromised in any way
Wow, spider webs are far more elaborate than we thought! As you explore this further, here’s a fun handprint spider craft for you to try out!

Supplies required:
- Colored craft paper
- Pencil
- A pair of scissors
- Craft glue
- Black sharpie
How to make the Handprint Spider Craft:
1. Download and print the handprint spider craft template. The template includes the spider’s head and eyes, as well as two handprints for its legs. The template also has a pattern for the spider’s web.

2. We’re going to start with the spider’s web, for which we need a white paper square of side 9″.

3. Fold the square in half vertically, so you get a rectangle.

4. Fold the rectangle in half, so you now get a square again.

5. Fold the square diagonally in half, bringing the corner of the closed edge to meet the opposite top corner. You now have a triangle.

6. Now’s when we need the template! Use a pencil to trace the spider web pattern on the triangle. It should look like the image below.

7. Remember the parts marked in yellow on the template? Cut out those corresponding parts on your triangle.

8. After all that cutting, unfold your paper and voila! The web of your handprint spider craft is ready! Put it aside for now as we move on to the spider.

9. Time for the main event – the spider! Trace the head and handprints of the template on black craft paper. Use white for the spider’s eyes. If you like, you can use your own handprint outlines that you draw on black paper. Cut out all the patterns and lay them out.

10. We have a problem – spiders have eight legs, but each handprint here has five fingers, which means 10 legs for our spider! To fix that, cut out the thumbs from both handprints.

11. Apply glue on the base of one handprint and stick the other handprint so they overlap.

12. Stick the spider’s head on the overlapped palms of the handprints.

13. Use a black Sharpie to draw pupils on the spider’s eyes and stick them on the bottom of the head. Hold on to that black Sharpie – our handprint spider craft needs a cute smile!

14. Nearly there! Use glue to attach a white paper strip to the edge of the spider’s head, opposite to where the eyes are.

15. Stick the open end of the paper strip to the spider web.

Now it looks like your spider is dangling from its gorgeous web. Your handprint spider craft is complete!

Now, wasn’t that easier than it looked? When you see the pictures first, you wonder how you’re going to create that intricate web, but it’s actually just a matter of a few snips! Of course, spiders put in much more effort in their real webs, but we’ll make do with this craft for now!
