Here are some snazzy spider crafts for kids to try for Save a Spider Day or for Halloween. Make spiders out of paper, pipe cleaners & more!
We have days for saving tigers, elephants and other grand animals, but no one would think about having a day to save a tiny creature that gives everyone the heebie-jeebies, like a spider. However, prepare to be surprised; we do, in fact, have a day dedicated to it – Save a Spider Day on 14th March!
But why on earth would anyone want to save the spider? Well, that’s exactly what this day talks about – the importance of preserving spiders in our environment.
Why should we save the spider?
- Spiders prey on insects that cause health hazards, like flies and mosquitoes
- On the other hand, they act as prey for other creatures like reptiles and birds
- Spiders are natural pest controllers, getting rid of pests that attack crops
- Spiders contribute to pollination as they move around
- Since spiders are sensitive to changes in the environment, they can be studied to understand the environment better
Well I certainly wasn’t aware that spiders were this helpful to us; were you? Seems like it’s only right to celebrate the spider on it’s special day, with some fun and snazzy spider crafts for kids!

We often think of spiders as these creatures that spin a large web and then wait in the center of it for its prey to get caught. These spiders from Krokotak certainly look like they have a few tricks up their sleeves!
