Candy abounds in our lives today, and we even have entire holidays that revolve around it, like Halloween. And Decorating With Candy Day which falls on the 1st of February.
But have you ever wondered who made the first-ever candy in the world? And who ate it?
Well, we don’t have names, but it is believed that the first candy originated in Egypt. It was quite elaborate, made from honey, nuts and fruits. Needless to say, it was considered a luxury item!

- The most expensive candy in the world is a chocolate truffle made by French company Richart, costing over $2,000 per pound
- The largest candy bar in the world weighed over 12,000 pounds and was 21 feet long
- The first gummy bears were made in Germany, called “Gummibärchen”, meaning ‘little gum bear’
- Cotton candy was originally named Fairy Floss (we love that name!)
- Lollipops and Snickers bars are both named after horses – racing horse Lolly Pop and the Mars family’s horse Snickers
Halloween was at the end of October, and November was the month to celebrate candy, with the 4th of November being National Candy Day and the 7th of November being National Cotton Candy Day. So so why are we talking about candy now in the beginning of the year?
