Adorable Clay Pig Craft Tutorial
This adorable clay pig craft is a great choice for beginners to clay, and the end result is a cute little friend you can put on your desk or on a shelf!
Have you heard people mention the phrase ‘sweating like a pig’? This would imply that pigs sweat profusely, but the truth is that it’s the opposite – pigs don’t even possess sweat glands!
That’s why you find them jumping into puddles of mud to stay cool – it’s not just fun for them! While we’re not sure how the saying about the sweating came to be, we do wonder if pigs are offended by it. What do you think?
While we’re on the topic of pigs, it’s worth noting that the 1st of March is National Pig Day, which means it’s time for fun pig crafts! We’re ready with our newest addition – a cute little clay pig craft tutorial!

Supplies required:
- Foam clay in two shades of pink, black and white
- Clay sculpting tools
How to make the Clay Pig Craft:
1. Let’s start with the base material of our craft – the clay! We begin with two balls of dark pink and light pink clay. The light pink will form the head, body , ears and limbs of the pig, while the dark pink is for the inner ears and snout.

2. Take a chunk of the light pink clay and roll it to form a ball. This will be the pig’s head. Put it aside for now.

3. Pinch out a small ball of light pink clay to make the pig’s ears. Take a little piece of the dark pink clay too, about half the size of the light pink. Roll both the light and dark pinks into balls.

4. Shape the light pink clay into a teardrop shape and flatten it slightly. This is the outer ear of our clay pig craft.

5. Repeat the previous step with the smaller ball of dark pink clay to make the pig’s inner ear. Now place the dark pink teardrop inside the light pink one as shown in the image below.

6. Press the dark pink into the light pink and pinch the bottom together so you get an ear shape as shown below.

7. Bring back the pig’s head from Step 2 and poke a small hole on the top using a small ball tip tool.

8. Insert the ‘pinched’ end of the ear into this hole and secure it in place. Smooth any rough edges as necessary.

9. Repeat steps 3-8 to create the pig’s other ear. Now your clay pig craft has both ears!

10. Roll out a small piece of dark pink clay and flatten it into a disc shape. Use a small ball tip tool to make holes to resemble the pig’s nostrils. The pig’s snout is ready!

11. Attach the pig snout to the front of the pig’s face, as shown below.

12. Next, your clay pig craft needs some eyes! For this, we’ll need the black and white foam clay. Pinch out two small pieces of white clay and flatten them into discs. Now make two smaller black discs and place them on top of the white discs. Finish off the eyes by adding a dot of white clay inside each black disc or pupil. Attach the eyes to the front of the pig’s head, above the snout. The head of your clay pig craft is ready!

13. Take a chunk of light pink clay and roll it to form a cylinder. This is the pig’s body.

14. Flatten one end of the cylinder by pressing it gently against a smooth hard surface. Now you have a narrow, tapered end and a wider end. The wider side will be the base of the clay pig craft.

15. Use a ball tip tool or the back of a pencil to poke a hole on the base end so that the pig’s body can stand up on its own.

16. Poke another small hole on the opposite end of the pig’s body (the narrower end), so we can place the head.

17. Attach the head on this narrow end and secure it in place. Smooth out any rough edges.

18. Pinch out a piece of light pink clay and roll it into a rope. Cut out two pieces of equal length for the hands. Attach them on either side of the pig’s body, as shown below.

19. Similarly, make smaller ‘ropes’ out of light pink clay for the legs and attach them on the base of the clay pig craft.

20. Once your clay pig craft is ready, leave it to dry overnight, at least 8 hours. Then you are ready to do what you like with it!

Your pig craft doesn’t have to be strictly pink – you can also try making pigs with peach, grey or even light brown clay. If you like, you can attach a magnet to the back before the clay dries, or create a small loop on top of the pig’s head so you can use it as a charm. There are so many ways to turn this cute pig into a handmade gift!
