In fact, the guinea pig is actually a rodent, and it comes from Peru. Guinea pigs have been domesticated since 7,000 BCE – no wonder then, that they’re among the top 10 most popular pets!
That’s why there’s a special day for these adorable animals – Guinea Pig Appreciation Day on 16th July. It was started in 2016 by a Canadian organization called Piggles Rescue.
