Super Easy Handprint Turtle Craft for Kids
This Handprint Turtle Craft for Kids is probably one of the easiest handprint crafts you’ll find! All you need is craft paper, googly eyes and markers!
Most parents would love for their kids to engage themselves in arts and crafts, since we’re all aware of the many benefits of doing them. However, when your kids are young, it can be quite a challenge to get them to complete something!
You can’t really blame them – young children are meant to bounce around, they can’t be expected to sit still for long. That’s why you need to choose crafts for them carefully.
How to choose crafts for young kids?
We suggest going for crafts that use only a few supplies, have 2-3 steps, and are based on a subject that the child is interested in. Avoid projects with materials that require a lot of skill.
Most importantly, don’t force the child to do anything and make room for mistakes. If they do go wrong somewhere, help them find a way to fix it, or at least turn it into something else. Sometimes you may end up with a result that’s much better than you initially intended!
If you’re looking for an example for such a craft for young kids, we’ve got one today. Since World Turtle Day is on the 23rd of May, we thought we’d go with the theme and bring out this really easy and fun handprint turtle craft. It needs just craft paper, googly eyes and Sharpies!

Supplies required:
- Colored craft papers
- Colored cardstock paper
- Pencil
- A pair of scissors
- Googly eyes
- Craft glue
- Sharpies
How to make the Handprint Turtle Craft:
1. Download and print the handprint turtle craft template. The template includes the turtle’s body parts like the head, body and shell. You can use your own handprint if you like, instead of going for the one in the template.
2. Trace the parts of the template on craft paper and cut them out. While you can choose any color you like, we’ve gone with traditional colors like green for the body and head, as well as brown for the shell.
3. This handprint turtle craft is a super simple one with just two parts to assemble – the shell and the body. Let’s start with the shell. Choose a Sharpie that’s of a shade darker than the shell and draw some details on the shell as shown below.
4. Stick the shell border along the bottom edge of the shell. Use a marker to add an outline to this border as well.
5. Time to bring out the handprint! Turn it upside down so that the fingers are pointing downward. Apply glue on the palm end of the handprint and stick the shell on top. The four fingers represent the turtle’s legs and the thumb is the neck.
6. Take out a green Sharpie and draw an outline inside the visible part of the handprint.
7. Apply some glue at the tip of the thumb and stick the head on top of this. Use the green Sharpie to drawn an outline inside the head.
8. Our handprint turtle craft is looking great! Stick a googly eye on the head.
9. We’re in the final step! Use a black Sharpie or marker to draw a mouth – and your handprint turtle craft is complete!
Isn’t this craft super easy? Assemble the shell, assemble the turtle, up them together and you’re done! If you like, you can also skip the outlining with the Sharpies, and make it even simpler. Anything to get your child interested and happy!
