Cute and Easy Handprint Lion Craft for Kids
This Handprint Lion Craft for Kids will be absolutely adorable with little hands! It would make a great craft to gift grandparents, aunts and uncles!
“A lion is called a ‘king of beasts’ obviously for a reason.” ~ Jack Hanna
Whenever we speak about lions, it’s always in this ‘king of beasts’ mode. We talk about bravery, strength, majesty and qualities like that. Today however, we’re going a little light on these, and focusing more on the fun and the adorable – starting with these books!
Fun Books about Lions for Kids
- The Lion Inside by Rachel Bright
- How to Be a Lion by Ed Vere
- Sun Flower Lion by Kevin Henkes
- A Hungry Lion, or A Dwindling Assortment of Animals by Lucy Ruth Cummins
- Dandelion by Don Freeman
These aren’t exactly serious books about lions or lion facts, but that’s not what we’re going for here! Sometimes it helps to look at the nonsensical side of things, like lions who overdress for parties! You also get some lovely lessons too, like choosing empathy over bullying. And when you’re taking a break from reading, we’ve got a little craft to keep you busy – a handprint lion craft!

Supplies required:
- Craft paper in different colors
- Craft glue
- Pencil
- Sharpies
- A pair of scissors
How to make the Handprint Lion Craft:
1. Download and print the handprint lion craft template. The template includes parts of the lion, like mane, head, body, ears, tail and paws.
2. Trace the parts of the template on craft papers of the appropriate colors and cut them out. You can use shades of brown, but we’ve decided to go bright by using yellow and orange. You can use your child’s handprint or the one provided in the template.
3. Let’s start assembling the head of our handprint lion craft. Stick the inner ears inside the outer ears. Stick the mouth part at the bottom of the lion’s head.
4. Now that the ears are ready, go ahead and attach them to the top of the lion’s head, sticking them to the back.
5. Let’s us a Sharpie to add some details! A black one works well for eyes, nose and a mouth – our handprint lion craft is beginning to look adorable!
6. Stick the completed head in the middle of the handprint cutout. Imagine how cute this would look with a child’s real handprint!
7. Attach the tip of the tail to the tail end with glue. Stick the lion’s belly at the bottom of the body cutout.
8. Time to begin our assembly! Apply glue to the top of the body and stick the handprint head on it.
9. Attach the tail cutout on a side of the body. Make sure to apply glue to the back of the body so it looks like the tail is appearing from behind.
10. Stick on the paws on the lower edge of the belly/body. We’re almost done!
11. All that’s left to do is to draw some details on the paws – use a black marker or Sharpie for this.
There you go – your cute little handprint lion craft is ready!
Now that you know how to make one handprint lion craft, you can go ahead and make as many as you like! If you plan to make a pair, remember that a lioness doesn’t have a mane, so skip that! This craft would be perfect for a lesson about wild animals, the cat family, Africa or for National Lion Day!
