This Pretty Paper Plate Llama Craft for Kids is an easy project for little kids who can experiment with different craft materials to decorate their llama!
When people talk about intelligent animals, we think of primates mostly, apes and chimps. However, one animal often gets missed – the llama!
Llamas are surprisingly smart – they learn a lot from observing human behavior and emulating us. They can even be taught to use a mirror!

How to make the Paper Plate Llama Craft:
1. Download and print the Paper Plate Llama Craft template. The template contains parts of the llama, including the head, ears, snout, hair, neck and legs. You’ll also find semicircles to decorate the saddle on the llama.

2. Trace the parts of the llama template on craft paper of the appropriate colors and cut them out. Go with a light color cardstock for the legs, head and neck, and choose bright colors for the semicircles. We’ve traced the hairpiece on some white textured paper, but you can use plain craft paper as well. Choose pink for the ears and a light brown for the snout.

3. Let’s start assembling our paper plate llama craft! Stick the ears inside the ear-shaped parts of the head.

4. Attach the hair cutout between the ears, on the top of the head.

5. Attach the snout cutout on the llama’s face, near the bottom.

6. Time to add some cuteness to our paper plate llama craft! Use a black Sharpie to draw the eyes, a nose and a mouth. Take a pink Sharpie to draw some cheeks – the llama is looking adorable!

7. Llamas have long necks, and ours needs one too! Attach the head pattern on the top end of the neck cutout.

8. The llama’s neck is looking bare, so let’s decorate it! Cut out a piece of yarn and wrap it around the neck 3 or 4 times.

9. Now that the first half of our paper plate llama craft is ready, let’s put it aside and move on to the second half. Take a white paper plate and cut it in half so you have two semicircles. We only need one for our paper plate llama craft.

10. Place the paper plate half so that the straight edge is on the top and the curved edge is on the bottom. Stick the leg cutouts to the curved edge of the plate.

11. Put aside the paper plate for now; it’s time to assemble the saddle. Stick the colored semicircles inside each other, aligning their straight edges, so it looks like the image below.

12. Stick the assembled saddle on the paper plate, in the middle of the top edge, aligning the straight edges.

13. Attach the bottom edge of the llama’s neck to the inside of the straight edge of the paper plate as shown below. Then stick some colored pompoms along the curved border of the saddle and a white pompom for the llama’s tail.

There you go – your adorable little paper plate llama craft is ready! We love the little pompoms that add an extra texture to the craft, and also reflect the vibrant nature of the llama. You can add more embellishments if you like, so that your llama looks that extra bit gorgeous!
