One sign that it’s the holiday season is the appearance of beautiful candles everywhere – especially with some greens or ribbons around them! But have you wondered who started this tradition?

It is believed that the custom originated in Ireland, where people lit candles in their homes to let priests know it was safe to pass. This was significant since the priests then were being persecuted for their faith.

Well, today the candle is a sign of cheer and happiness, and it’s also a symbol of piety. Let’s join in the celebrations with a candle that’s safe even for young kids – a toilet paper roll candle craft!
