How to Make a Yarn Pom Pom Bunny Craft For Kids:
We used 3 sizes of pom poms to create our cute pom pom bunny for Easter. To make perfect pomp-poms you need to cut your cardboard into three different diameters 2cm, 4cm, and 5 cm (two pieces of each) we will be using this later to shape the pom-poms.
The largest pom pom will be the body, then make a slightly smaller pom for the head. Finish it off with a cute little pom tail. Pom poms are great kid’s crafts because they are safe to make and you can use them for so many different projects.
Begin by wrapping the yarn around three fingers (2 fingers for the smaller pom-pom). Thicker, softer yarn works best. Wrap it around at least 80-100 rounds for a fluffier and compact pom-pom.
Carefully slip the looped yarn off your fingers, keeping the loops intact. Cut a separate 10-cm piece of yarn. Slip the separate piece of yarn underneath the looped yarn and wrap it around to the front, tying it REALLY TIGHT.
Next, slip a pair of scissors through the loops and cut through them.
Keep cutting all the loops. Your pom-pom will look uneven and a little wonky. Trim it up and give it a “haircut” until it looks nice and even.
Use 2 cutouts of 5-inch cardboard circle cutouts placed on the two sides of the wool pom-pom to trim further.Fluff it and repeat this process 2-3 times till the ball becomes nice and round.
Same you make the second pom-pom
Here’s the guide to making 3 pompoms for the bunny. 2 cm for the tail, 4 cm for the head & 5 cm for the body. Repeat the process to make 3 pom-poms as per the size mentioned.
Cut some ear shapes out of yellow felt and a smaller shape out of grey felt and a tiny dot of pink for the nose. Layer the grey on top of the yellow and pinch the bottom. Glue the pinched portion together.
Using a glue gun, attach the smaller and larger pom poms together (the smaller as the head, the larger as the body.) And finally, add the smallest ball onto the back of the larger pom-pom for the tail.
Once this is done glue the ears to the head sideways, the nose in the center, and the eyes.
Let it dry completely.
There’s nothing sweeter in the spring than fuzzy little animals… even sweeter when they’re made by hand! I had so much fun making pom-pom bunnies and loved the end result.
