Well, since an octopus is out of bounds for obvious reasons, you can still bring a smile to your child’s face with this super fun paper plate octopus craft. The end result will be even better than the real deal, for your child can run wild with his/her colorful imagination.

  • A Paper Plate
  • Bubble Wrap
  • Scotch Tape
  • Acrylic paint in Orange, Pink & Yellow
  • Googly Eyes
  • Scissors
  • Sponge Brush
  • Paint Brush

Steps to Make a Paper Plate Octopus

Cut the bubble wrap into eight 1/2 inch strips using child-safe scissors.

Using a Sponge Brush, paint the paper plate in shades of pink & orange. Start from the center and in a circular motion move towards the edge of the plate. Paper plate octopus is a simple and exciting way to replicate ocean creatures at home. While the paper plate dries, use a brush to paint the strips of the bubble wrap. I realized it would have been easier if I had painted the bubble wrap before cutting it up. But hey, you live and learn!

Using scotch tape, glue the strips of bubble wrap at the back of the plate as shown. I stuck them closer towards one end of the paper plate.

Finally, add the googly eyes, and three little dots using the back of a paintbrush to complete your cute little Octopus!
