Beat the heat with a refreshing ice cream – and an Origami ice cream cone craft! Easy to make, even for Origami beginners and young kids!

It’s summer, and while I’m not a fan of all the humidity, one thing I absolutely love about the season is all the yummy ice cream flavors that become available!

The world’s most popular ice cream flavor is vanilla, although every country in the world seems to have its own favorite. The U.S., Australia, and Canada love Neapolitan, a layered ice cream, while Italy, Colombia, and Uganda prefer chocolate. Some less common ice cream flavors include guava, honeycomb and pistachio.

Whatever your favorite is, we’ve got the perfect craft to celebrate it – an Origami ice cream cone craft! The fun part here is that you can change the flavor by changing the color of the paper – let’s see how!

Supplies required:

  • Colored craft papers in different colors
  • Scissors
  • Craft glue

How to make the Origami Ice Cream Cone Craft:

1. Start by choosing lightweight craft papers for the Origami ice cream cone craft. Choose two different colors – one for the cone and another for the ice cream. You’ll also need some multicolored paper for the sprinkles. Cut out squares of side 15 cm from each colored paper.

2. Place both papers one on top of the other, so that the ice cream color paper is on top and the cone paper is on the bottom. Make sure all corners and edges are aligned perfectly. Fold the square in half diagonally and unfold. You now have a diagonal crease separating two triangles, one on the top and one on the bottom.

3. Hold the base of the bottom triangle and fold it inward towards the diagonal crease.

4. Similarly, fold the edge of the top triangle and fold it inward towards the diagonal crease. You now have a kite shape with a small triangle on top in one color and another longer one on the bottom in another color.

5. Hold the top edge of the fold made in Step 3 and fold it down as shown in the image below.

6. Similarly, take the top edge of the fold made in Step 4 and fold it down.

7. Turn the entire pattern of the Origami ice cream cone upside down so the darker, cone color is visible on top. You now see a kite shape with two extra ‘flaps’ on either side of the kite’s long sides.

8. Fold the two extra flaps inward towards the main pattern of the Origami ice cream cone. You are now back to the kite shape with a crease running down the middle.

9. Take the right short side of the kite shape and fold it in towards the middle crease.

10. Similarly, take the left short side and fold it in towards the middle crease. You now have an elongated diamond shape with a folded part on top and a plain dark part on the bottom.

11. Fold the light colored part down so the pointed corner points towards the pointy corner of the lower darker section.

12. Fold back the previous fold, leaving 1 cm folded.

13. Again, fold the pointy corner down, leaving another cm.

14. Fold back the previous fold, leaving 1 cm folded. You can now see all the previous folds in layers on the Origami ice cream cone.

16. Cut out tiny rectangles from craft paper of different colors to make the sprinkles.

17. Apply little dots of glue across the ice cream section and stick the paper sprinkles on it.
