Everyone loves hugs; there is no better way to feel good after a bad day, or to show someone how much you missed them. Yes, hugs are great.
Unless you’re a pufferfish, then hugs become rather tricky!
This is the absolutely lovely premise of a book written and illustrated by the awesome Ellie Peterson. If you want to know what happens next, we recommend reading the book!

Supplies required:
- Colored craft papers
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Craft glue
- Sharpies
How to make the Fish Corner Bookmark Papercraft:
1. Download the Fish Corner Bookmark template. The template is simple enough – you have a large square that will form the base of the bookmark, while the remaining are fins and eyes.

2. Trace the patterns of the template on craft paper in colors of your choice. This is the fun part – your fish can be any color you like! Choose different colors for the base bookmark and for the fins, unless you’re going for some kind of a monochromatic look.

3. There’s a little bit of Origami here, but nothing too complicated! Start with the bookmark base square and fold it in half diagonally. You now have a triangle.
4. Fold the right bottom corner up, toward the top corner. You now have a small triangle on the right side.

5. Fold this small triangle in half as shown above.
6. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 on the left side.
7. Unfold the last four folds. You’re back to a large triangle with lots of creases.
8. Fold down the top corner of the top layer to meet the base of the triangle. You now have a little triangle right at the top, and three triangles at the bottom, with the middle one lying ‘upside down’.

9. Fold the right triangle up and tuck its end into the middle triangle’s base.
10. Repeat the previous step on the left side. You’ve now created a little pocket.
11. Use a corner cutter or a pair of scissors to round out the top three edges of the bookmark, leaving the bottom corner as it is. The base of your fish corner bookmark is ready!

12. Time to make our bookmark ‘fishy’! Turn it over so all the folds are underneath and the uncut corner is pointing right. This will be the fish’s face/head.

13. Stick the tail fin cutout to the back end of the fish, i.e., the rounded end. Make sure to apply glue on the inside so the end of the fin is not visible outside.

14. Stick the side fins on the sides and center of the fish.

15. Stick the eye cutout on the fish’s face, toward the front. Finally, bring out your Sharpies – it’s time to draw a smile and some details on the fins!

And just like that, your fish corner bookmark is complete!

These are really easy to make, and once you get the knack of folding the corner bookmark, you can easily make several more. Try out a different color combination each time, and hand them out to your gang at school. Can’t think of a better way to encourage everyone to read more!
