April 1st is a day when many people around the world are pranking their friends and family members, but this year’s April 1st was special for space enthusiasts – it was the day the Artemis II launched!

The Artemis II was a crewed follow-up mission to the 2022 Artemis I mission. It flew around the moon with four astronauts, including a woman, a person of color and a non-American – the first of its kind!

Since the Artemis II mission is so special, we’ve got a new craft based on it – an Artemis II bookmarks papercraft! This is a set of bookmarks featuring all the main aspects of the mission – the moon, an astronaut and of course, the rocket! The perfect bookmarks for books about outer space, rockets or even aliens!

Awesome Artemis II Bookmarks Papercraft for Kids

Supplies required:

Colored craft paper
Popsicle sticks
Craft glue
Pencil
A pair of scissors

How to make the Artemis II Bookmarks Papercraft

1. Download and print the Artemis II Bookmarks Papercraft Template. The template has parts of all the bookmarks in the set, which includes the Artemis II rocket, of course, as well as the astronaut, star and moon.

2. Trace the parts of the template on craft paper of the appropriate colors and cut them out. The astronaut’s suit is ideal in white, as well as the rocket base. The moon is grey while the star and the flame are orange. We’ve also chosen orange for the cutout on top of the rocket.

3. Let’s start with the main part of our Artemis II bookmarks papercraft – the Artemis II rocket itself! Stick the smaller flame cutout inside the larger flame cutout. Attach the flame exhaust to the bottom of the rocket base with glue.

4. Glue the flame cutout to the exhaust of the rocket.

5. Now, stick the orange rectangle on the base of the Artemis II rocket.

6. Bring your orange marker to draw outlines on the papercraft rocket as well as the flame.

7. Let’s put the rocket aside and move on to the next part of the Artemis II bookmarks papercraft – the astronaut! Attach the arms to either side of the astronaut’s body. Stick the blue glass cutout in the middle of the astronaut’s helmet.

8. Attach the communication carrier cutouts to either side of the helmet. Stick the helmet on top of the astronaut’s body.

9. Use markers to add details to the astronaut bookmark. You can include some colors here, like maroon or grey, or you can try something a little more fluoroscent.

10. Time to move on to the celestial bodies, beginning with the moon. There’s not a lot of assembly to do here, so take out your grey marker and draw outlines and craters on it.

11. Now that all the parts of our Artemis II bookmarks papercraft are ready, it’s time to stick Popsicle sticks to the back of each one.
