DIY St Patrick’s Day Leprechaun Hats
Ahhh! I love spring when I can dream of flowers, pots of gold & lucky rainbows. Can you tell I like St. Patricks Day? It’s such a fun day to tell tales of Leprechaun fairies in clover fields or to treasure hunt through our homes looking for something green to wear! I also like to sprinkle my house with a little Leprechaun magic for my daughter and today I’m sharing a craft with you that will help you do just that. We’re making St Patrick’s Day Leprechaun Hats!
St Patrick’s Day Leprechaun Hats
Materials required
- An old and clean Icecream Tub
- Washi Tape – Black
- Green & Black acrylic paint
- Blue satin ribbons
- Hole punch
- Paint Brush
- Gold Glitter paper
- Scissors
To Make:
Wash and clean an old empty tub of yoghurt or Icecream. We used the 1/2 litre one.
Using a brush, paint the outer surface of the tub with green acrylic paint. Let dry completely. If required, give it multiple coats till the tub is completely covered. Be sure to paint the lid too.
Using a mini drill bit or a hole punch if your lid is made of plastic, punch 2 holes at opposite ends of lid.
Now, thread the blue sating ribbon through both the holes as shown in the above picture.
Line two washi tapes around the cylinder leaving a half inch gap between them. Using a brush & black acrylic paint, paint within the gap over the green paint. Let dry.
Then slowly peel off the washi tapes to reveal a black painted sash around the hat.
The final step is to cut out a belt buckle shaped rectangle from the gold glitter paper and stick onto the hat. You are finished! Your hat is ready and you can now decorate your table, mantle or any corner of your house for St. Patrick’s Day!
If you’re planning a St. Patrick’s Day party or just want to celebrate with the family, you can make these fun Leprechaun Hats. Your kids will have a blast helping you put together the little top hat, dpaintig the tubs, and wearing them.
Tip – Make this hat in black (without the shamrock) and you’ll have a Mad Hatter top hat for the Alice in Wonderland movie.
