Easy Handprint Bat Paper Craft for Halloween
Here’s a fun and easy Handprint Bat Paper Craft for kids to make this Halloween! With basic craft supplies and a pair of hands, you’re all set!
What would you do if you saw a bat suddenly? Well, run, obviously!!
That’s true, most of us would run, especially after the bad reputation bats have had since the pandemic. However, bats are a crucial part of our ecosystem, which is why we even have an entire month dedicated to appreciating bats – Bat Appreciation Month in October! It’s a happy coincidence that Halloween is also in October!
If you’d like to learn a little more about bats or read some bat-themed stories, here are a few of our recommendations.
Kids’ Books about Bats
- Stellaluna by Janell Cannon
- Bats (National Geographic Kids Readers) by Elizabeth Carney
- Nightsong by Ari Berk
- The Truth about Bats (The Magic School Bus) by Eva Moore
- Booker the Library Bat by Jess Brallier
While bat books are a fun way to spend Bat Appreciation Month, we also recommend trying out some fun bat crafts – like today’s handprint bat paper craft that’s a breeze to make!
Easy Handprint Bat Paper Craft for Halloween

Supplies required:
- Thick colored craft paper, in black, white, and pink
- Pencil
- A pair of scissors
- Craft glue
- Black sharpie
How to make the Handprint Bat Paper Craft:
1. Download and print the handprint bat paper craft template. The template includes parts of the bat, like the body, eyes, fangs and ears. The template also includes a pair of handprints, but you can make them yourself. If that’s the case, simply press your hands on the craft paper of your choice and draw an outline of the entire palm with a pencil.

2. Trace the parts of the template on craft paper of the appropriate colors. We’ve chosen black as the base of the handprint bat paper craft, but you can also try grey or purple. We’ve gone with pink for the cheeks and ears, while the fangs and outer eyes are white. Use your black Sharpie to draw pupils inside the eye circles. Lay out all the parts of the pattern once cut and ready.

3. Glue the inner ear cutouts to the pointy parts of the bat’s head, as shown below.

4. Glue the eyes in the top half of the bat cutout, below the ears. Use a black Sharpie to draw a smile under the eyes. Is it just me, or does our handprint bat paper craft look a little like the black cat Jiji from Kiki’s Delivery Service?

5. Stick the cheek circles under the eyes, on either side of the bat’s face. Use glue to attach the fangs directly under the mouth.

6. Take one of the handprint cutouts and apply glue near the edge of the palm. Attach the glued part to one side of the bat, pressing the glued side to the bottom of the bat cutout.

7. Similarly, glue the other handprint cutout to the other side.

There you go – your cute little handprint bat paper craft is ready!

This handprint bat paper craft is probably one of the easiest bat crafts you’ve ever seen, and we love that it’s not at all scary, making it perfect for young kids! You could make multiple of these and string them together to make a fun Halloween-themed garland. I’m sure you can think of more ways to use these fun bats!
