Adorable Handprint Cow Craft for Kids
How cute is this Handprint Cow Craft for Kids? Perfect for National Cow Appreciation Day which falls on the second Tuesday of July!
“Cows are amongst the gentlest of breathing creatures; none show more passionate tenderness to their young when deprived of them; and, in short, I am not ashamed to profess a deep love for these quiet creatures.”
Anyone who has observed a cow will agree with this quote by English writer Thomas De Quincey. Very few animals are as gentle as the cow, and also the most giving. In fact, it is to acknowledge this service of cows that there came to be a special day for it – National Cow Appreciation Day!
National Cow Appreciation Day is observed on the second Tuesday of July. The day was started by the restaurant chain Chick-fil-A in 2015, as a way to appreciate cows – while also having fun! Every year, the restaurant organizes fun games and activities, and you can even get freebies when you go dressed as a cow!
So while you plan to get your cow costume on, we have something to keep the little ones busy at home – a cute little handprint cow craft! All you need for this are basic craft supplies like paper and glue, so let’s begin!

Supplies required:
- Colored craft papers
- Pencil
- Craft glue
- A pair of scissors
- Sharpies
How to make the Handprint Cow Craft:
1. Download the handprint cow craft template and print it out. The template contains parts of the cow, including head, lower face, tail, ears and horns. It also includes a handprint template in case you don’t want to use your own handprints.
2. Trace the parts of the template on craft paper of the appropriate colors and cut them out. We’ve decided that our cow will be black and white, so the base parts – the head and handprint/body – will be white while the tail is black. The lower face and ears are pink, while the horns can be yellow or orange.

3. Let’s start our handprint cow craft by putting together the face. Stick the lower face part on the bottom of the head, so the lower edges are aligned.

4. Stick the ears in the appropriate positions on the cow’s head.

5. Apply some glue on the bottom edge of the horns and attach them to the back of the cow’s head, next to the ears.

6. Use a black Sharpie or marker to draw the nose and mouth on the cow’s face – the handprint cow craft is beginning to look cute!

7. Don’t put the Sharpie down yet – you need to draw the eyes! When the cow’s face is complete, let’s move on to the body. Stick the tail to the thumb of the handprint so it looks like the image below.

8. Take a pencil and draw some patch outlines on the head and handprint. Don’t worry about the shape – the squigglier, the better!

9. Fill in the patch outlines with a black Sharpie or marker. Shade in the fingertips of the handprint so they look like the cow’s hooves.

10. Now the final step – attach the head on top of the cow’s body so that the head is facing away from the tail.

That’s it – your handprint cow craft is complete! Go ahead and make another one with the handprint of the opposite hand!

This craft is perfect not just for Cow Appreciation Day, but also for World Farm Animals Day on 2nd October, Farmer’s Day on 23rd December, Barn Day on 14th July or World Milk Day on 1st June.
