Gorgeous Handprint Unicorn Craft for Kids
How does a handprint become a unicorn? With some magic, of course, and also through this Gorgeous Handprint Unicorn Craft for Kids!
Few animals have captured the imagination of people across time and space, like the unicorn! While people still argue whether it’s a real animal or a fantastical one, the unicorn has indeed been represented in art from across the world. From Gothic to Renaissance art, from the art of the Indus Valley civilization to the ancient Greeks, unicorns are everywhere!
Unicorns are also found in literature, notably in writings by Marco Polo and Leonardo da Vinci. They’re generally described as being horse-like and white, with cloven hooves. Some descriptions mention a beard, while others mention wings, but one feature is always present – the horn!
The unicorn’s horn is believed to have magical powers, like making poisoned water drinkable, or healing illnesses. Naturally, the sale of unicorn horns was a big deal in the old days, and unicorn cups were gifted to royals. However, most of those were actually made from the tusks of narwhals and elephants, or from rhino horns!
By the way, did you know that the unicorn horn is called an alicorn?
Well, if you’re intrigued by now, we’ve got something for you – a beautiful handprint unicorn craft! It’s an easy craft, perfect even for young kids!

Supplies required:
- Colored craft papers

- A pair of scissors
- Craft glue
- Sharpies
How to make the Handprint Unicorn Craft:
1. Download the handprint unicorn craft template. The template includes parts of the unicorn, like the head, face, handprint body, horn, tail and mane. You’ll notice three sets of curved tear-drop shapes in different sizes – these are for the mane and tail of the unicorn.
2. Trace the template patterns on craft paper of the appropriate colors and cut them out. Now, as far as we know, unicorns are white, so that would be a good choice for the handprint! If you want to try something different, perhaps a very light pink may work. The lower face should be a darker pink in that case, while you can choose a yellow for the horn. As for the mane and tail, that’s the fun part – go as colorful as you’d like! Just make sure to keep the color combo consistent for the mane and tail so your unicorn looks nice.
3. Let’s begin with the unicorn’s head. Stick the lower face on the bottom of the head, aligning the curved lower edges.
4. Keep the head aside for now – we’re moving to the hairy parts! Gather the three sets of the tear drop sets. Taking each set one by one, stick the three parts together, overlapping as shown in the image below.
5. Take the smallest set and attach the horn on the top, applying glue on the back.
6. Bring back the unicorn head and apply some glue on the top. Stick the mane-horn combo over here.
7. Attach the larger mane to the back of the unicorn’s head so that it appears to pop out from the side. Apply glue on the back of the head to achieve this effect. The head of your handprint unicorn craft is now complete!
8. Apply glue on the wrist end of the handprint and stick the unicorn head here.
9. Just one more part left – the tail! Glue the tail on the thumb of the handprint.
10. Time to add some details! Bring out your Sharpies and draw an outline inside the head and body of the unicorn. Use a black Sharpie to add eyes, a nose and a mouth. Take a pink Sharpie and shade in the inner ears and cheeks. There you go – a stunning handprint unicorn craft!
This handprint unicorn craft is so easy, you’ll be tempted to make them again and again, trying out different color combinations for the mane and tail. Well, we sure won’t stop you, so go ahead!
