There are few better ways to encourage your kids in a fun, creative way than with specially-designed art projects. I especially love art projects where I can have my daughter involved in the process. Like our DIY melted crayon Monogram art piece  and Easy canvas art with scotch tape

So, when I chanced upon Sriks Creative Corner’s Page , I couldn’t wait to share his awesome DIY wall art idea using sponge pouncers. This is something anyone can do… no artist talent needed for this project. Oh, and did I mention this is super cheap to make too. Here’s

I will let Srikanth Gundoju explain how he made it

I used round flat tip sponge brushes(pouncers) for the background.. I was after bokeh affect of a sunset scene..
Start with white in the center of the sun and add yellow, and then eventually red.. try to blend the colors so that they wont appear like patches..

You can see the pouncer brush beside the painting, i used different size brushes randomly..
The main colors used in this are yellow, red, white, and black.. Basically add black and white to your colors to make it dark and lighter..
For the stroke, you just dab the pouncer in the paint(Acrylics) and put it on the canvas, and rotate it so that you get a perfect round.. Keep repeating until you get the desired background…

Finished version – After adding a simple silhouette of a tree with love birds.. it gave a real dimension to the background..

We also asked him a few questions –

Tell me a little about you
I’m Srikanth Gundoju , a Software Engineer by profession. Self-taught to be an Artist and a photographer. Anything related to art is my passion. Drawing, Sketching, Painting, Handicrafts and Photography are few of them. Check out my facebook page. I started off doodling, scribbling on my note books right from the time of my schooling, using Pencil, sketch pens, crayons and have almost got my hands dirty in every medium that I came across like paper, canvas, wood, clay, ceramics, glass, metals etc. Still have lots to try. I always like to see things from a different angle, you’ll see an unusual underlying creative and innovative side in anything you see. Like it’s said beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.

How did you get the idea for this art
I ran into pouncers (Round tip sponge brushes) few days ago, and I wanted to try them.. When I was thinking about background, I thought let me give a bokeh like effect with these brushes.. Usually I just start with some basic idea in mind and after that its just how your flow drives you…

Why do you think art is important in your life and if you have kids – your tips on getting artsy crafty with them
It’s a hobby that gives relaxation, fun, confidence bringing out the creative and innovative side of me. Here ‘hobby’ just means something which is not professional, which gives me immense pleasure doing, definitely not just something I do in spare time to keep myself from being bored. Being a father of two kids, you always have your hands ful; One of the best things is to see your kids trying to follow you and I always have them sit besides and share my palette with them so that they can try stuff on their canvases, sometime they end up doing on my canvas too
