Easy Paper Bag Kangaroo Craft for Kids
Fancy playing with a kangaroo? Then here’s one that doesn’t kick – a cute paper bag kangaroo craft! Make and play with it as much as you like!
If you’re a parent, I’m sure that at some point in time, you’ve wished that you had an extra pair of hands. I know I have! Most of us probably wouldn’t have needed an extra set of legs, but there is one animal that has this privilege (sort of) – the kangaroo!
No, the kangaroo does not really have three legs, but it’s tail does function as one, helping it jump high – 25 feet in a single bound! The kangaroo’s tail is so strong that it can hold its entire weight when the kangaroo wants to kick someone!
That’s not to say the kangaroo is an aggressive animal – far from it! It only attacks when provoked, else you’ll find it to be extremely gentle. Just like the kangaroo we have for you today, in our paper bag kangaroo craft!

Supplies required:
- Colored craft papers
- Paper bag
- Pencil
- A pair of scissors
- Craft glue
- Sharpies
How to make the Paper Bag Kangaroo Craft:
1. Download the paper bag kangaroo craft template and print it out. The template includes parts of the Mama kangaroo including the head, body, belly, pouch, legs, tail, arms, ears and tuft of hair. The template also includes the body and head of the baby kangaroo.
2. Trace the parts of the template on craft paper of the appropriate colors and cut them out. Ideal colors for the kangaroo would be orange or shades of brown. Choose a light tan for the pouch and belly, as well as a pink for the ears.
3. Cut out a rectangle the same size of the paper bag – excluding the flap. This is the kangaroo’s body. Stick the belly in the middle of this rectangle.
4. Take the pouch and apply glue along the bottom curved edge. Make sure to leave the straight edge free. Stick the pouch on the lower part of the belly, so the bottom curved edges are aligned. Again, make sure the top of the pouch is open – or the baby kangaroo will have no place to go!
5. Apply glue to the straight edges of the arms and attach them to the left and right edges of the body rectangle so that both arms face inward. Keep the other end of the arms open and unglued.
6. Our paper bag kangaroo craft is beginning to take shape! Apply glue on the straight edges of the legs and stick them behind the rectangle body so that the legs are properly visible on both sides.
7. Attach the tail to the paper bag kangaroo craft, sticking on the back of the rectangle.
8. Let’s put aside the body of the paper bag kangaroo craft and move to the head. Attach the little tuft of hair on top of the kangaroo’s head. Stick the pink inner ears inside the outer ears.
9. Apply glue on the bottom edges of the ears and stick them behind the head, as shown below.
10. Time to take out your Sharpies! Use a black Sharpie to draw pupils on the white eye cutouts and stick them on the kangaroo’s face. Draw a nose and a cute little smile below the eyes. Stick the little pink cheeks on either side of the eyes.
11. Moving on to the main part of our paper bag kangaroo craft – the paper bag! Stick the completed kangaroo body on the part of the paper bag below the folded flap.
12. Now stick the kangaroo’s head on the flap, as shown below.
13. Something important is missing – oh yes, the baby kangaroo! Stick the baby’s head on top of the body and use a black marker to draw eyes, a nose and a mouth. Insert the completed baby kangaroo inside the Mama kangaroo’s pouch. That’s it – your paper bag kangaroo craft is complete!
How cute is this little Mama and baby pair? We love how it looks like the mother is holding on to her baby in the pouch – we did say that kangaroos are inherently gentle animals!
