How to make the Paper Flower Wreath Craft:
1. Let’s start our paper flower wreath craft by choosing craft papers in colors you like. You can choose any color for the flowers, but go with green for the leaves. Choose a neutral color like brown, beige or grey for the cardstock base. Cut out a rectangle measuring 4″ x 3″ from the colored craft paper for the flowers. Cut out a circle of 2 cm diameter from craft paper in a contrasting color for the flower center. Finally, cut a smaller rectangle measuring 3″ x 2″ from green paper for the leaves.
2. We start with the first part of our paper flower wreath craft – the flowers. Take the rectangular paper meant for the flower and fold it in half along the short side, so that the folded edge is parallel to the long edge. Check out the image below for more clarity.
3. Fold the rectangle horizontally in half again, along the short side.
4. Fold the rectangle in half horizontally once again, for the 3rd time. Make sure that each fold is sharp and neat. Unfold all 3 folds – you can now see multiple creases. Fold the rectangle along these crease lines in an accordion fashion. Again, make sure the folds are crisp and tight.
5. Use a pencil to draw rounded corners on the open edge of your folded accordion. Use scissors to cut along the pencil lines.
6. You can see that all the accordion folds now have rounded edges.
7. Fold the paper accordion in half, so you get a ‘V’ shape as shown below.
8. Apply glue along any of the inside edges of the ‘V’ shape of your accordion.
9. Attach the opposite end of the ‘V’ shape to the glued side. Don’t worry if these instructions sound confusing; your paper flower wreath craft is coming along nicely!
10. Use the tips of your fingers to gently spread open accordion folds. You have a semi-flower shape, with two open ends. Apply glue on any one of these ends.
11. Attach the glued side to the opposite side so your flower is now whole.
12. Stick the round cutout to the center of the flower pattern. You have now created the first flower of your paper flower wreath craft; now make many more, using rectangular craft paper in different colors!
13. Put away the flowers and bring out the green rectangular paper. We will repeat steps 2-6 with this rectangle too, but with one difference – we will skip the 3rd fold. After the second fold, open the folds and make accordion folds along the creases. You will get a pattern as shown below.
14. Cut the accordion-folded leaf base in half, along the middle crease. Take any one of the halves and fold it in half again, horizontally, so you get a ‘V’ shape. Stick the inner edges of the ‘V’ shape with glue. Repeat with the other half of the green accordion. Repeat these steps so you get many leaves equal to the number of flowers.
15. Put aside your leaves and bring out your cardstock to make the base of your paper flower wreath craft. Cut out a wreath shape from the cardstock, which is basically two concentric circles. Make sure your wreath is wide enough so you have space to stick your flowers.
16. Bring back the flowers and leaves. Take a leaf pattern and attach it to a flower, sticking it between two petals. Repeat till all the flowers and leaves are attached.
17. Apply glue to the wreath and stick a flower-leaf pattern. Continue till the wreath is filled up. Make sure there are no gaps visible between the flowers.
18. There you go – your paper flower wreath craft is ready! Make sure the wreath is completely dry before hanging it up on the wall or on your door.
Now that wasn’t that hard, was it? We know the instructions do seem long, but they’re actually quite easy. Once you make one flower pattern, the rest follow along in an easy flow. It’s one of the most therapeutic ways to spend a lazy afternoon, and at the end of it, you have a pretty paper flower wreath craft to decorate your room!
