Well, if you’re in India, we have a festival that’s just for siblings, and it’s called Raksha Bandhan!

Raksha Bandhan is a Hindu festival that falls in August. During this festival, siblings tie sacred threads or amulets on each other’s wrists and exchange gifts. The thread symbolizes the care and protection the siblings have for each other.

Traditionally, sisters tie the threads on brothers’ wrists, but today, it’s turned into a fun occasion for siblings of all ages and genders, and it’s a ritual that has sustained through the ages.

This year, Raksha Bandhan falls on 9th August, and we’re all set to celebrate the holiday. If you are yet to buy a gift or Rakhi, we recommend hurrying up!

Printable Raksha Bandhan Explosion Card

Supplies required:

  • Colored markers or Sharpies
  • Glue
  • Bone folder
  • Scissors
  • Rakhi

How to make the Printable Raksha Bandhan Explosion Card:

1. Download the template for the Printable Raksha Bandhan Explosion Card and print it out. 

2. Use your colored markers to color in the message on the card. Choose bright colors to make your card lively!

3. Color in the rest of the card with a marker of another color.

4. Cut out the square card template.

5. Fold the square in half horizontally, making sure that the corners meet. Use a bone folder along the crease to create a nice, crisp line. 

6. Fold again to make a quarter fold.

7. Unfold the previous folds and fold again diagonally

8. Open up the square again, now fold the square diagonally

9. Open up and fold again in the opposite direction.

10. Open it out and flip it over to the other side. Fold again to get all diagonal lines.

11. Gently push the sides in to form a triangle, as shown. Use a bone folder to crease the lines.

12. With the long edge at the top, fold the corners of the triangle inwards so the tips meet in the center of the long straight edge.

13. Flip over and repeat, folding on the other side of the triangle, using a bone folder.

14. Open out the shape slightly and tuck the points in at each corner as shown.

15. Fold flat and use the bone folder to crease the lines. This is the completed explosion insert – once you attach it to the base, your Raksha Bandhan explosion card will be ready to decorate.

16. For a vertical opening card, apply glue to one side of the insert. Align the point to the centerfold of the base card and stick. Apply glue to the top of the insert and close the base of the card.

17. Now add a rakhi inside and close.
