Dragon Bookmark Papercraft for Kids
On Appreciate a Dragon Day, we’re having fun with a cute and easy Dragon Bookmark Papercraft for Kids! All you need is paper and basic supplies!
Dragons often get a bad rap, generally being depicted as creatures that need to be slayed so that the princess can be rescued. But we’re moving on from those stereotypes – for one, princesses can rescue themselves, and secondly, not all dragons are bad!
That’s probably why people need a reminder to appreciate dragons – and so we have Appreciate a Dragon Day on 16th January! Here are some fun books that feature good dragons.
Fun Books about Dragons
- Dragons, Dragons by Eric Carle
- Little Wing Learns to Fly by Calista Brill
- Puff The Magic Dragon by Peter Yarrow and Lenny Lipton
- Pinkalicious: Dragon to the Rescue by Victoria Kann
- The Pet Dragon by Christoph Niemann
Well, if you’re going to be doing all that reading, you certainly need a bookmark to match! And if you ask us, the best kind of bookmark is one you can make yourself, like our dragon bookmark papercraft!

Supplies required:
- Craft paper
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Craft glue
- Sharpies
How to Make the Dragon Bookmark Papercraft:
1. Download and print the Dragon bookmark papercraft template. The template includes parts of the dragon, like head, body, chest, ears, wings, hands, eyes and horn. You can make two dragon bookmarks with this one template, so you can try out different colors!
2. Trace the parts of the template on colored craft papers of your choice and cut them out. You can make your dragon any color you like – green, purple, orange, yellow – anything! We’ve used yellow for the chest and horn, and white for the eyes.

3. Take a black marker and shade in the pupils on the eye cutouts.

4. Take the head of the dragon bookmark papercraft and attach the ears on either side with glue.

5. Stick the eyes in the middle of the head, and the horn on top, so it is in between the eyes.

6. Let’s move on to the body of your dragon bookmark papercraft. Stick the chest cutout on the body, aligning the top edges together.

7. Now that the body and head are ready, let’s combine them! Attach the head to the top edge of the body with glue.

8. Apply glue on the upper right hedge of the body, right below the head. Stick the straight end of the hand on this part. Cut out any excess part of the hand that may be jutting out beyond the body.

9. Repeat the previous step with the other hand on the opposite side of the body.

10. The dragon bookmark papercraft is taking shape! Of course it needs those spiky wings, so stick them on the back, in line with the ends of the hands.

11. Use a black Sharpie to draw nostrils and a smile. Draw outlines on the ears, wings and body with an orange sharpie. If you want to make your dragon cuter, add some pink cheeks!

There you go – your dragon bookmark papercraft is complete! To use the bookmark, slide the edge of the page of your book between the dragon’s arms and body, as shown in the image below.

We love that you can modify this dragon bookmark papercraft in different ways. You can skip the horn, for instance, and you can play around with different color combinations. You an also add little eyelashes if you want to make the dragon visibly female.
