Super Fun Paper Bag Artemis II Craft for Kids
We’re celebrating the amazing NASA Artemis II mission with a fun paper bag Artemis II craft! Perfect for National Space Day on May 1st.
It’s amazing when you think about it, from painting the moon to looking at it through a telescope to actually setting foot on it, man sure has come a long way!
That’s why it’s always so exciting when we hear about advances in space exploration, especially when it comes to the moon. It’s no wonder, then, that the recent Artemis II mission was followed closely by people all over the planet!
The Artemis II is the first crewed mission of NASA’s Artemis program, which is a part of a long-term plan to create a permanent lunar base. Here is some more information about this exciting endeavour.
Interesting Facts about the Artemis II Mission:
- The Artemis II is a follow-up mission to the Artemis I mission in 2022, which was uncrewed
- The crew of the Artemis II had four astronauts – two Navy pilots, a fighter pilot and an electrical engineer
- This is the first lunar mission with a woman, a person of color and a non-American
- Artemis II flew around the Moon without entering the lunar orbit, unlike Apollo 8
- The length of the Artemis II is almost as much as the height of Big Ben
- Some things the astronauts ate include chicken curry, shrimp cocktail and chocolate pudding

Supplies required:
- Colored craft papers
- Template
- Craft glue
- Pencil
- A pair of scissors
- Paper bag
How to make the Paper Bag Artemis II Craft:
1. Download and print the Paper Bag Artemis II Craft template. The template includes the parts of the Artemis II (not the real one, of course!), such as the rocket’s base or body tube, external parts, nose cone, fins and flames.

2. Trace the parts of the template on craft paper of the appropriate colors and cut them out. We’ve used white for the base parts and brighter colors for the external parts so they stand out. We’ve chosen yellow and red, but you can also try different shades of blue.

3. Take the large orange rectangle, the rocket’s body, and stick the smaller rectangle horizontally near one end, as shown belo.

4. Let’s assemble the flames by sticking the smaller flame cutouts inside the larger ones, so you have a total of four flame patterns.

5. Glue the nozzle cutouts to the base cutout.
6. Attach the assembled nozzle base to the bottom edge of the rocket body.

7. Take one of the fin cutouts and apply some glue to the protruding flap, as shown below. Attach it to one side of the rocket body.

8. Repeat the previous step with the other fin cutout. Your paper bag Artemis II craft is taking shape!

9. Glue the flame patterns to the bottom ends of the nozzles and the fins.

10. Stick the long strip in the center of the rocket’s body, extending from the base to the top of the rectangular strip.

11. Use markers to trace outlines on the parts of the rocket so they look better. Take the paper bag and flatten its bottom flap.

12. Glue the rocket base to the front of the paper bag right below the folded flap.

13. All that’s left to do is to attach the nose of the rocket to the folded flap of the paper bag.

That’s it – your paper bag Artemis II craft is ready!

Doesn’t our paper bag Artemis II craft look super cool? It’s sure to encourage kids to learn more about man’s advances in space exploration – like the manned mission that has traveled farthest from the Earth!
