Cute Paper Bag Statue of Liberty Craft for Kids
We’ve got the perfect project for kids to try this 4th of July – a paper bag Statue of Liberty craft! It is really easy to make & looks amazing when done!
There’s this famous lady who lives in New York, in the United States of America. She’s very well-known, and meeting her is on the bucket list of most travelers.
She’s been through a lot, but still stands tall, with her head held high. She’s always seen in a green outfit, with a tablet in her hand. Her waist measures 35 feet and she wears a size 879 shoe.
Yes, we’re talking about Lady Liberty, or the famous Statue of Liberty!
The Statue of Liberty is one of the most identifiable symbols of the U.S. and it is a symbol of liberty, of course. The statue has broken chains around her feet, symbolizing the nation breaking free from slavery.
Since we’re about to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States’ liberation, it seems only right to use this opportunity to celebrate Lady Liberty too, and we’re going to do it with a cute paper bag Statue of Liberty craft!

Supplies required:
- Brown paper bag
- Colored craft papers
- Pencil
- Template
- A pair of scissors
- Craft glue
- Markers
How to make the Paper Bag Statue of Liberty Craft:
1. Download and print the Paper Bag Statue of Liberty Craft Template. The template contains parts of the Statue of Liberty craft, including the body, head, robe, arms, tablet, flame and crown.

2. Trace the patterns on craft paper of the appropriate colors and cut them out. Choose a light green for the body, head, arms and crown, and choose a different shade of green for the robe and the tablet. The flame will need orange and yellow craft paper.

3. Let’s start our paper bag Statue of Liberty craft by making the highest element of the statue – the flame! Assemble the torch by sticking the rectangle to the longer edge of the trapezoid shape. Stick the yellow flame inside the orange flame.

4. Attach the flame to the torch with glue. Put it aside for now.

5. Let’s move on to Lady Liberty’s crown. Stick the spikes on the crown’s base with glue. The real crown has seven spikes, for seven continents, but we’ll make do with just five for now!

6. Once you’ve finished sticking the spikes, turn the paper crown to the other side.

7. Apply glue to the top edge of the head cutout. Stick the completed crown here.

8. Bring the paper bag and flatten out the bottom flap. Place it so that the flap is on top and the open end of the bag is at the bottom.

9. Glue the head pattern on the flattened flap of the paper bag.

10. Apply glue all over the rest of the paper bag and stick the rectangular body cutout. Our paper bag Statue of Liberty craft is coming along well!

11. Dress up our statue by sticking the robe on the body. Now take both the arms – it’s time to give them something to hold! Stick the torch to the bent arm cutout, and the tablet to the other arm.

12. Apply glue on the straight edge of the arm holding the torch, and stick to the back of the statue’s body.

13. Apply glue on the straight edge of the arm holding the tablet, and stick it behind the other side of the statue, so that it is slightly leaning downward.

14. Fold the rounded edge of the tablet-holding arm inwards and glue it to the tablet.

15. Final step – take out your markers! Use a light green marker to outline the crown and draw a hairline on the statue’s head. Take a black marker and draw eyes, a nose and a mouth on the statue’s face.

16. Use a pink marker to draw some cheeks and that’s it – your paper bag Statue of Liberty craft is done!

Isn’t this paper bag Statue of Liberty craft absolutely gorgeous? We love the little robe pattern that reflects the folds on the original statue, and we also like the fact that we’ve included both the torch and the tablet. Let the kids explore the symbolism behind all the elements of the Statue of Liberty – let this craft be the starting point for the exploration!
