Fun and Easy Paper Cup Koala Craft for Kids
Turn an empty paper cup into this cute little paper cup koala craft for kids! All you need are basic craft supplies and you’re all set to begin crafting!
When summer approaches, we tend to put in more effort to stay hydrated, while also leaving out some water for any thirsty birds and animals that may pass by our home. But if you live in Australia, you don’t need to do that for one particular animal – the koala!
It’s true, koalas rarely drink water – they get all the hydration they need from their favorite food – eucalyptus leaves. In fact, the word koala is believed to mean ‘no drink‘ or ‘no water‘ in Dharug, an Australian Aboriginal language. It seems like the koalas have been impressing humans for centuries now!
Well today we’ve got a craft that’s quite contradictory – it features a paper cup, something you use to drink, and turns it into a koala, an animal that rarely drinks! So if you’ve got an old paper cup lying around, let’s turn it into this cute paper cup koala craft!
Fun and Easy Paper Cup Koala Craft for Kids

Supplies required:
- Paper cup
- Colored craft papers
- Colored cardstock paper
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Craft glue
- Sharpies
- Googly eyes
How to make the Paper Cup Koala Craft:
1. Download and print the Paper Cup Koala Craft template. The template contains parts of the koala, like the body, hair tuft, outer ears, inner ears, nose, belly, and arms.

2. Trace the parts of the template on craft paper of the appropriate colors and cut them out. Use thick craft paper – you can choose grey or brown for the koala’s body, outer ears, hair and arms. Go with a light pink for the inner ears and belly portions. Black works well for the nose, and googly eyes will do the rest!

3. Choose a paper cup that’s the same size as the width of the koala’s body cutout. Apply glue all over the paper cup’s curved surface.

4. Stick the koala’s body cutout on the glued area of the paper cup so that the cup is completely covered with paper as shown below. The part where the ends of the paper meet will be the back of the paper cup koala craft, while the opposite, smooth surface will be the front.

5. Attach the hair cutout to the top edge of the paper cup, so that the koala’s front is facing you. Stick the nose in the center of the top half of the paper cup, right below the hair tuft.

6. Stick the inner ears inside the outer ears, as shown here.

7. Cut 1 cm slits at an angle from the bottom edges of the outer ears. Check the image below for reference.

8. Bring back the paper cup. Keeping the front facing you, insert the top left edge into the slit of one of the ears. Make sure the ear stays in place securely.

9. Repeat the previous step with the other ear. Your paper cup koala craft is taking shape!

10. Attach the belly cutout on the front of the koala, so that the straight edge of the cutout aligns with the open end of the paper cup, directly under the nose.

11. Stick the googly eyes near the top edge of the paper cup, on either side of the nose.

12. Apply glue on the straight edges of the arm cutouts and stick them on either side of the koala’s body, so that the curved edges face inward, as shown here.

13. Take a black Sharpie and draw a cute little smile under the nose – your paper cup koala craft is now ready!

Wasn’t this easier than you thought it was? Now you can go ahead and make as many paper cup koalas as you like! You can try a few things to make each paper cup koala craft different – change the color of the body, add googly eyes with lashes, add a little bow instead of the hair tuft – the options are endless!
