Celebrate the Queen’s platinum jubilee with these pretty and ‘propah’ Platinum jubilee crafts! Includes crowns, soldiers and some fun masks!
There’s something about royals that interests regular people like you and me, probably due to all the fantastical stories and fairy tales we’ve heard during our childhood. Kings and queens, princes and princesses – they all seem to have a life that seems very different, and is still so mysterious!
So why are we talking about royals today? Because the whole world is celebrating the British Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee!
What is the Platinum Jubilee?
The Platinum Jubilee is the 70th anniversary of the accession of a royal, and 2022 marks the Platinum Jubilee of the current Queen Elizabeth II. This is the first time a British monarch is celebrating 70 years wearing the crown!
As you can imagine, this is an event of great excitement across the world, particularly in Commonwealth countries. The celebrations were kickstarted at Buckingham Palace in January, and it culminates in June. In the United Kingdom, there was an extra bank holiday on 3 June, and the usual Spring bank holiday was moved from the end of May to 2 June, to create the four-day Platinum Jubilee Central Weekend from Thursday, 2 June, to Sunday, 5 June. This is why June is considered the grand finale, and countries are doing many special things to mark the event:
- Mattel has released a Platinum Jubilee-special Barbie doll that looks like the Queen
- Eight places in the UK have been given city status
- The Australia Post released two commemorative stamps
- The Australian Parliament house has planned special tours featuring the Queen in their art collection
- A 14-tune concert will be held in front of the Governor’s Palace at Williamsburg, Virginia
And the main event will be a Platinum Party at the palace, which will feature talented people like Alicia Keys, Diana Ross, Adam Lambert, Sir Rod Stewart, Duran Duran and Hans Zimmer. Yes, it’s a grand party fit for a queen!
So we’re joining in the party too, with some ‘propah’ Platinum Jubilee Crafts for kids to make and enjoy! If you’re planning a themed party, you’ll find that these Platinum Jubilee crafts will come in quite handy, especially when it comes to decoration!
