Easy and Fun Toilet Paper Roll Giraffe Craft
An empty cardboard tube beautifully transforms into the neck of this cute Toilet Paper Roll Giraffe Craft! Easy project for kids of all ages to try!
Being tall is something that most people consider a benefit – society considers it a sign of beauty, and it’s quite handy when you need to reach the cookies on the top shelf!
However, can being too tall be a problem?
Well, if you’re a giraffe, it can! Since the giraffe’s legs are quite long (almost 6 feet), their heads are rather high up, making it hard to drink water from a pond or river. Maybe it’s a good thing then, that giraffes get most of their water from food, and need to drink only once in a few days!
Yes, giraffes are pretty amazing, and it’s fascinating to read how their excess height affects their daily activities. While you’re learning more about this awesome animal, might we recommend a craft? Here’s a fun and easy toilet paper roll giraffe craft you’ll love!
Easy and Fun Toilet Paper Roll Giraffe Craft
Supplies required:
- Long toilet paper roll/cardboard tube
- Craft paper in different colors
- Googly eyes
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Glue
- Ruler
How to make the Toilet Paper Roll Giraffe Craft:
1. Download and print the toilet paper roll giraffe template. The template includes patterns for the giraffe’s body, face, ears and ossicones – those are the horn-shaped bony structures on top of the giraffe’s head.
2. Cut out the body pattern directly from the template. The remaining parts can be traced on craft paper of different colors before being cut out. We’ve chosen beige for the face, pink for the ears and brown for the ossicones.
3. We know you can’t wait to get started on the giraffe’s body, but let’s first do the face! Use a pencil to draw nostrils and a mouth.
4. Then take a pink marker and color in cheeks on either side of the mouth. Darken the remaining lines with a marker or pen.
5. Put aside the giraffe’s face – it’s time to move on to the body of our toilet paper roll giraffe! A giraffe has a pretty long neck, and to represent it properly you need a long cardboard tube. We’re using one that’s 12 inches long.
6. Remember the body pattern you cut out in step 2 from the template? Time to take it out! Place the pattern on top of the toilet paper roll – you can secure it in place with some masking tape. Use a pencil to trace around the pattern on the cardboard tube. Now, cut along the traced outline – your the base of your toilet paper roll giraffe is ready! You can easily make out the giraffe’s head, neck and body.
7. Time to bring back the giraffe’s mouth! Stick it on the lower part of the giraffe’s head.
8. Giraffes have spots or patches, which serve a number of purposes, including thermal regulation. You can draw some patches on your giraffe’s body, head and neck using a pencil.
9. Fill in the giraffe’s patches with brown paint or a brown marker.
10. Stick two googly eyes on the giraffe’s head, above the mouth.
11. Glue on the pink ears in the appropriate positions on the giraffe’s head.
12. Finish off your toilet paper roll giraffe by gluing the ossicones on top of the giraffe’s head, between the ears.
And just like that, your toilet paper roll giraffe craft is all done!
The use of a long tissue roll to make the giraffe’s neck is quite clever, even if we may say so ourselves! Since most toilet paper rolls are brown, you don’t need to add any paint – this saves you an extra step when making this toilet paper roll giraffe! So go ahead and see what else you can learn about the amazing giraffe!
