Quirky Toilet Paper Roll Shark Craft for Kids

Sharing is caring!

This toilet paper roll shark craft is easy to make, and is perfect for Shark Awareness Day, International Whale Shark Day or an aquatic life lesson!

I first watched Jaws when I was a child, as I sneaked in while my older cousins were watching. Big mistake! For a long time after that, I was terrified of the sea and even stayed far away from the shore on the beach.

Well, I’m glad that fear died down, and I was able to enjoy the beach again! However, there will be a few people of my generation whose thoughts won’t go first to the Jaws movie whenever they hear the word ‘shark‘!

Since then, we’ve had lots of sharks in not-so-scary movies and shows, which are appropriate for kids. Here are some of them:

  • Shark Tale, 2004
  • Finding Nemo, 2003
  • Jabberjaw, 1976
  • Kenny The Shark, 2003
  • Shark Superhighway, 2008

I wish some of these were around when I was a kid! Anyway, for now, I’ll satisfy myself with a quirky toilet paper roll shark – a fun craft for kids of all ages!

Supplies required:

  • Colored craft papers
  • Empty toilet paper roll/cardboard tube
  • A pair of scissors
  • Craft glue
  • Pencil
  • Sharpies

How to make the Toilet Paper Roll Shark Craft:

1. Download and print the toilet paper roll shark template. The template includes parts of the shark – body, fins, teeth, cheek, eyes and small fish. Now, why do we have small fish in a toilet paper roll shark craft? You’ll see!

2. Trace the parts of the shark on craft paper of the appropriate colors and cut them out. The choice of colors is pretty straightforward – you can go with dark grey or dark blue for the body and fins, as well as yellow or orange for the small fish.

3. Let’s begin our toilet paper roll shark craft with…a toilet paper roll! Choose one that’s not too thick or too thin so that you can easily cut or fold the cardboard tube.

10. Do sharks have teeth? Probably not, but that shouldn’t stop us from sticking a little pink circle under the eye!

11. Time for the final touch! Stick the teeth along the open sides of the mouth, applying glue on the inside of the tube. Remember the small fish? That’s the shark’s snack! You can attach one end of a thread to the fish and the other end to the inside of the shark’s mouth.

That’s it, your toilet paper roll shark is done and ready!

If you look at those small fish and suddenly start craving goldfish crackers – we can’t help it! You can turn this into a fun game if you like, making the shark catch more fish and see how many fish each person can catch. Check out our Bee and Flower Game to get inspired.
