This American Eagle Handprint Craft is a cute little festive keepsake for kids to make! Perfect for American Bald Eagle Day or the Fourth of July.
One of the easiest keepsakes you can make with your kids are handprint crafts – they require very little effort, and the sight of those tiny handprints will melt your heart years later! That’s why we’ve got a whole lot of them – Dr. Seuss, birds, bugs, and more!
Handprint crafts aren’t just cute, they have many benefits for kids who make them. Wondering if handprint crafts are really worth your time? Here are some reasons to try them.
Why you should try Handprint Crafts
- Handprint crafts serve as visual mementos that capture specific moments in your child’s life
- Handprint crafts are a good way to encourage sensory play as kids get their hands involved
- Using their hands builds finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- The entire family can get involved in making handprint crafts, especially siblings
- You don’t require complicated or expensive craft supplies to make them – just paint and paper!
- They help as reminders of special occasions or holidays you celebrated together
That last point is an important one, and that’s exactly why we’ve decided to commemorate American Bald Eagle Day and the Fourth of July with a handprint craft – an American Eagle handprint craft! The bald eagle is an important national symbol of the United States, featuring even on the Presidential seal, and we’re going to learn more about it with this craft!

Supplies required:
- Craft paper in different colors
- Sharpies or markers
- Scissors
- Glue
How to make the American Eagle Handprint Craft for Kids:
1. Download and print the American Eagle handprint craft template. The template includes parts of the eagle, like the head, body, tail, wings, feet, beak, and cheeks.
2. Trace the parts of the template on craft papers of the appropriate colors and cut them out. We’ve gone with brown and white as the base colors, but we’ve chosen two different shades of brown for the wings. Yellow works perfectly well for the feet and beak. You can make handprints by placing your kids’ hands on brown craft paper and drawing an outline around them and cutting them out.
3. Let’s begin by assembling the head of the American eagle handprint craft. Stick on the cheeks and beak on the lower side of the white head so they are more or less in the same line.
4. Stick the tail to the bottom of the body piece. Assemble the wings by sticking the inner wing inside the outer wing.
5. Our American eagle handprint craft needs some tiny feet! Stick the little feet on the bottom edge of the body.
6. Apply glue on the top edge of the body – we’re going to finish our assembly soon!
7. Attach the head of our American Eagle handprint craft on the body.
8. Get out the black marker and draw some eyes for our eagle.
9. Now bring out the colored markers and draw outlines for the wings.
10. That’s it – your American eagle handprint craft is absolutely done and it looks adorable!
Once you’re done making this American eagle handprint craft, you can look for other places the eagle is featured. You’ll find them in parades, fireworks, banners and other decorations. The mighty American eagle reminds us of the journeys this amazing nation has gone through, and inspires us to be brave, free and proud!
