Beautiful DIY Mothers Day Bird Card for Kids
Mom is going to love this beautiful DIY Mothers Day Bird Card that kids can make easily. Gather some colored paper and get crafting!
When you’re a parent, it’s fascinating to watch our children grow up, learning new skills every day and getting a little more independent as the years go by. Yes, the teen years can be tumultuous, but well, that’s part of the human experience, right?
Well, kind of, because it turns out that other creatures also have their own version of the teen years. Take baby birds for instance. They’re called nestlings when they’re tiny and helpless, since they’re restricted to their nests. However, once they get some feathers and can move around, they’re called fledglings. The parent birds now push them out so they’ll learn how to fly.
Guess teens of all species need a little prodding to get a move on!
Today we celebrate this beautiful bond mothers have with their kids – from toddlers to teens! With Mother’s Day coming up on 11th May, we’ve got a DIY Mothers Day bird card for kids to make and gift their Moms. Nothing like a cute handmade card to light up Mom’s face!

Supplies required:
- Colored craft papers
- Craft glue
- Pencil
- Sharpies
- Thick cardstock paper
How to make the DIY Mothers Day Bird Card:
1. Download and print the DIY Mothers Day Bird Card template. The template includes parts of the mother bird – body, wing, beak and cheeks, as well as the body, wing and beak of the baby bird. The template also includes a little heart shape and a banner to write your caption.
2. Trace the parts of the template on craft paper of the appropriate colors and cut them out. You can use any pastel colors for the birds, but choose different colors for the mother and baby birds. Keep the heart red or bright pink, and choose a light color for the banner so that you can write with a dark Sharpie on a light background.
3. Let’s start our DIY Mothers Day Bird Card by assembling the mother bird! Stick the beak in the middle of the mother bird’s head, as shown below.
4. Birds don’t have cheeks, but our mother bird does! Stick the little pink circles on either side of the beak.
5. Apply glue along a small portion of the curved outer edge of the bird’s body as shown in the image below.
6. Take the bird’s wing and stick the narrow edge on the glue applied in the previous step. Place the wing so that it’s facing slightly downward, covering the front of the bird’s body.
7. Use scissors to trim any excess of the wing that may be jutting out of the bird’s body. The wing should align perfectly with the outer edge of the bird.
8. Time to bring out the Sharpies! Use a black Sharpie or marker to draw eyes over the bird’s beak. The first part of our DIY Mothers Day bird card is done! Take the banner cutout and write your message on it.
9. Time to move on to the baby bird. The steps are similar to the ones we followed for the mother bird. Stick the beak in the middle of the bird’s head and draw eyes over it. Apply a thin line of glue on the outer edge of the baby bird’s body and stick the wing on it. The second part of your DIY Mothers Day bird card is done!
10. Prepare a card from the cardstock paper by folding a rectangle in half. On the outside of the card, stick the mother bird a little to the side, leaving space for the baby bird.
11. Now comes the tricky part. Stick the baby bird close to the mother bird, placing it under the mother’s wing. Stick the banner on top of the mother bird’s head, under the top edge of the card. Attach the hearts under the banner, on either side of the bird.
12. Now all that’s left to do is to write a heartfelt little note inside the card and your DIY Mothers Day bird card is ready!
Isn’t this DIY Mothers Day bird card just too cute for words? Just looking at it makes you want to give your Mom a big hug! If you’d like to combine this with a Mother’s Day gift, try gifting a frame that’ll fit the card, so Mom can place it on her desk and look at it always!
