Easy Bakr Id/ Eid ul-Adha Crafts and Activities for Kids

Looking for Ideas to celebrate Bakr Id or Eid ul Adha? Here are a few Easy Bakr Id/Eid ul-Adha Crafts and Activities for Kids!

Why do we celebrate Bakr Id/ Eid ul-Adha?

The story behind Bakrid or Eid ul Adha is based on the Prophet Ibrahim (also known as Abraham), who longed for a child. Finally, after years of prayer, God granted him his wish and he was blessed with a son, Ismail. Ibrahim and his wife were overjoyed!

Years later, when Ismail was a teenager, Ibrahim began to get recurrent dreams in which God asked him to sacrifice that which was most dear to him, i.e. his son Ismail. This was, of course, unthinkable to Ibrahim, who tried to ignore these dreams. But finally, he realized that he could stall God’s order no more, and he talked to Ismail about it. The son agreed that the father should go ahead and prove his faith, even if it meant giving up his life. People who heard about it were shocked, and they thought that Ibrahim was mad.

With tears in his eyes, Ibrahim raised the knife to sacrifice his son, but at that instant, God commanded him to stop and sacrifice an animal instead. He had proved his faith and there was no need for Ismail to die!!  Needless to say, Ibrahim was relieved and this is how the festival of sacrifice came to be. Later, Ibrahim and his son built the Kaaba at Mecca in Saudi Arabia, which is where Muslims across the world go on pilgrimage.

When is Bakr Id/ Eid ul-Adha in India?

Eid al-Adha 2021 in India will begin on the evening of Monday, 19th July, and ends on the evening of Tuesday, 20th July.

What does Bakr Id/ Eid ul-Adha celebrate?

This story has actually quite a few hidden lessons, which form the essence of this festival. Here are some of them:
  • If you believe in something, do so utterly and completely, and be ready to sacrifice everything to reach your goal
  • Often, sacrificing temporary pleasures can reap permanent benefits
  • If something is keeping you from your goals, like a bad habit or addiction, sacrificing it is better for you, however hard it may seem
You can set an example and celebrate Bakrid in a peaceful way!! Here we have an easy Bakrid craft, that kids can make and gift their friends.

Easy Bakr Id/Eid ul-Adha Craft (with hidden treat box!)

Looking for Ideas to celebrate Bakr Id or Eid ul Adha? Here are a few Easy Bakr Id/Eid ul-Adha Crafts and Activities for Kids!

This is a fun and easy Bakrid Card to make and give your friends, with a tiny treat hidden inside!! The theme is representative of the Kaaba, the building that Ibrahim and his son built in Mecca. A few basic craft supplies and you’re ready to roll!

Materials Required for the Eid ul-Adha Craft:

1. Corrugated Cardboard in a dark color
2. Silver Glitter Foam
3. Empty Matchbox
4. Black Paper
5. Shiny star stickers or adhesive jewel stickers
6. Black Pipe cleaner
7. Gold colored washi tape
8. Black Paint

Directions to make the Eid ul-Adha Craft:

1. Cut the corrugated cardboard to the size of a card and fold it in the center.
2. Paint the inside ‘drawer’ of the matchbox with black paint and cover the outside with black paper.
3. On one end of the drawer, attach a small piece of black pipe cleaner, which will act as the ‘drawer pull’. Ensure the pipe cleaner side is at the bottom.
4. Stick on washi tape across the top 1/3rd of the matchbox. Stick the box on the card, with the pipe cleaner at the bottom.
5. Stick on a glitter foam moon and stars. Let it shine!
6. Before you gift your card, don’t forget to put in a small treat – a sticker, candy or a colorful eraser will work!
