Easy and Cute Handprint Chicken Craft for Kids
Here’s a cute little handprint chicken craft that’s super easy to make! Perfect for learning about farm life, domestic birds or about the letter C!
While kids learn the names of many animals from a young age, they don’t get to see them all in person. Apart from dogs and cats, as well as a few common birds like pigeons, kids rarely get to see other animals unless they visit a farm or a zoo.
I’ve noticed that when they visit a zoo, most kids make a beeline for the lions, and at a farm, it’s usually towards the chickens!
There’s something fun about chickens; for one, they’re easy to find, and they generally have no problem walking around people, pecking the ground to find food. It’s no wonder kids love them so much!

Supplies required:
- Colored craft papers
- Googly eyes
- Pencil
- Craft glue
- A pair of scissors
- Sharpies
How to make Handprint Chicken Craft:
1. Download and print the handprint chicken craft template. The template contains parts of the chicken, like the head, comb, wattle, beak, legs and two handprints. The large handprint represents the chicken’s body, while the smaller one is for the wing.
2. Trace the parts of the template on craft papers of the appropriate colors and cut them out. We’ve chosen a light brown for the chicken’s head, body and wing, but you can also go with white, yellow or orange. The wattle and comb are red, the beak is yellow and the legs are dark brown.
3. Take out your colored Sharpies. Find ones that match each part of the chicken and use them to draw outlines inside the specific pieces. It’s an optional step, but adds a little more interest to the overall craft.
4. Time to start assembling our handprint chicken craft! Place the large handprint so that the fingers face up. Attach the head on the tip of the thumb, which will be the chicken’s neck in this craft.
5. Stick the small handprint on the palm of the larger handprint so that the fingers of the small handprint face the direction of the little finger of the large handprint.
6. Attach the legs to the bottom edge of the chicken’s body, i.e. the wrist part of the large handprint. Apply glue to the back of the handprint.
7. Now that the main body of the handprint chicken craft is done, let’s move on to the face! Stick the wattle in the center of the lower half of the face.
8. Attach the beak on top of the wattle, but ensure that the wattle is still visible beneath the beak.
9. Stick the comb on top of the head, applying glue to the back of the head.
10. Only one more thing left to do – stick two googly eyes above the beak.
That’s it – your handprint chicken craft is complete!
One fun way to modify this handprint chicken craft is to turn it into a collaborative project. Mom or Dad can supply the larger handprint, while kiddo can bring their hand for the wing. That would be an adorable little craft for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day, don’t you think?
