Easy Handprint Giraffe Craft for Kids

Supplies required:

  • Colored craft papers
  • Pencil
  • A pair of scissors
  • Googly eyes
  • Craft glue
  • Sharpies in different colors

How to make the Handprint Giraffe Craft for Kids:

1. Download the handprint giraffe craft template. The template contains parts of the giraffe, including head, horns, nose and tail. The template also includes a handprint, but you can make your own by simply placing your child’s hand on paper and drawing an outline around it.

2. Trace the parts of the template on craft papers of the appropriate colors and cut them out. You can choose yellow, orange or a light brown for the giraffe’s head, neck and body (the handprint). Browns works well for the horns, tail and nose.

3. Now that we have all the parts, let’s begin! Stick the nose at the bottom of the giraffe’s face.

4. Attach the head at the narrow end of the neck. A giraffe’s neck may be super long, but it has just 7 cervical vertebrae – the same as you and me! It’s just that the vertebrae themselves are quite long.

5. Attach the lower end of the neck to the wrist end of the handprint, so that the fingers point downward as shown below. Your handprint giraffe craft is beginning to take shape!

6. Stick the tail to the end of the thumb on the handprint. Attach the horns to the top of the head, applying glue at the back. Did you know that the giraffe’s horns are called ossicones?

7. Time to take out our Sharpies! Use a brown marker to draw spots all over the neck and body of the giraffe – leaving the legs/fingers. Shade in the tips of the fingers to make it look like hooves.

8. Stick two googly eyes on the giraffe’s head, above the nose section.

9. Take out your black Sharpie or marker and draw a tiny little mouth and nostrils. Make sure to give him a cute smile!

10. Use a pink or orange Sharpie to shade in the inner parts of the ears.
